Holistic or Reductionist
A term that is coined as a virtue, such as a ‘Green future,’ is ripe for populist usage so as to mean the contrary of what was intended. That term, green, has indeed been taken over so as to relate almost entirely to the production of sustainable green energy, and little else. It must be obvious that whatever form of society we are, or will be, it is essential to have sustainable energy, which loosely signifies being green. What matters ultimately is the values or virtues that we relate to the whole of society – holistically. if energy is entirely green and sustainable, it may simply open up a way for society and the world to become profligate in quest for material ‘wealth’ so that all of nature is swallowed under bricks and mortar, for a constantly and blindly expanding urban population. It is inconceivable that Altruist society can be anything but holistic and caring for nature. Anarchistic society is inherently impractical and inward looking. Tyranny enslaves the whole of humanity and has no essential concern for nature.
It may also be remarked that the Christian church has always had a binary ethic. Using it in a contradictory way in what is not a binary world. The authority of the Church served a purpose in a warring world even at the price of heretics being burnt by the prevailing cult. An ethic of altruism is not an ethic of blind obedience to authority, and neither is it love-in anarchism.
