Brexit and Polls

Brexit and Polls
Politics is based on pragmatic ethics. It is not simply about the economy, and is about society.
Either we are a rule based authoritarian society, or state, or we are in some shade a democracy’.
Assuming we are an Altruist style society, then it is intrinsically necessary for all rules and laws to be sympathetic to that ethos.
We must also be sure what ‘society’ or state we belong to, with certainty about whether we are under the aegis of a British, European, or other government.
One or other must be the determining power for how we work internally and how we relate externally.
No rule or legislation can validly tie this country into the future, and bind future governments.
Future government, and society in general, must be able to change its mind about what constitutes an altruist state. Or, at the worst, decide we are not an altruist state.
Therefore, no law or rule that is formulated today can be valid indefinitely.
Including the Irish border.
In this connection mere populist opinion polls about any subject have no useful meaning, unless the ethical end value for society is first determined, and if we are an altruist society as presently understood, then the poll must relate to its values. If, of course, Britain is a mere economic machine then the rules are different.
