Love and Anger
Love is opposed to hate, and anger to calmness. But it is fashionable today to use Love as if it is an ethical value. In reality it is a passion that with anger etc may be used in conjunction with morality to express approval and disapproval in righteous anger.
Self-serving people may indeed use these passions to great effect.
It is particularly reprehensible that love is equated with the agapao, agape, that presumably Jesus of Nazareth recommended for his followers. There is a clumsy use of this by the Church, as ‘Christian love’ as if other religions and philosophies do not understand the term.
The term that should be used is probably Altruism [responsible – freedom]. A person who is an altruist may then employ righteous anger in rebuking those who are not altruists.
Love as ‘flower power’ is so random in its meaning as to leave no room for anything righteous or at all pragmatic, in a chaotic world.

Re: Love and Anger
Most people that identify as Christian bare very little resemblance to their super hero. If you really nose around almost everyone engages in morally questionable behavior at some time. Agape is a myth that some people think they ought to believe in, in a Pascal's wager kind of way, though it often comes off as them trying to cover their ass morally. We're all culpable in certain ways. I agree with you that the further humans can distance themselves from something like "agape love", which seems an almost moribund term now, the clearer people will become in discerning how to treat each other.
Re: Love and Anger
Love can also be opposed to indifference.
Some stalkers prefer to be loathed and hated to being ignored.
They are extortionists of attention of the beloved manqué.
Instead of admitting to themselves that they had made a mistake and trying a new "target" stalkers punish the failed target by annoying it and driving it crazy.
They humiliate themselves too and develop self-hatred and probably blame it all on the failed target and punish it even more.
Stalkers should be hit by a thunder, as far as I am concerned. I see no better solution in this case.
