~ End of the Human Race; Extinction of Mankind ~

Post by Bill Wiltrack »

The end of the Human Race. Extinction of Mankind as we knew it...

And we will willingly bring this upon ourselves.

With the development of synthetic & artificial seamen and synthetic & artificial eggs will bring a generation of quisai human cyborgs.

* This hybrid form of human being will have huge advantages
; mentally, physically, and emotionally.

For us, as philosophers, we understand and appreciate ALL of the hybrid cyborg upgrades especially the developed ability for obtaining and holding a high state of self-consciousness. This crossroad of consciousness has been arguably our weakest point of being.

Like a crab discarding it's outgrown shell, homosapiens will have looked the same outwardly to the new gene humans but this emerging new AI version of man will hold little to the former shell of what was known in 2018 AD as human.

Goodbye mankind. Actually, it wasn't that nice knowing you...It's good to leave you.

I can hear you ringing that bell standing on some street corner wearing a sign that says "The end is coming."

Hi, Bill! Just started up with the forum again today after about 2 years, and I remember you -- good to see you still writing and thinking.

Interesting topic! In another area (religion) today, I speculated on what might "save" humanity -- that is, prevent the extinction of Homo sapiens and preserve it as "humanity". Here, you have brought up another interesting view -- through artificial selection of a kind, human beings might evolve into a more viable or improved species. This would be sort of a "benign" form of self-induced extinction (as opposed, say, to massive nuclear war). Maybe it would be more optimistic to say it would be a benign and directed from of self-evolution.

Through artificial selection on plants and animals, we have tried to "improve" certain species, usually for our own benefit as Homo sapiens. Now maybe we can imagine improving our own species and quit trying to maintain the current format. 8)

I don't see anymore how it can be avoided. We are losing human intelligence by the sacrifice of conscious awareness and our connection with the above and opening to objective conscience in favor of becoming dependent on machines to establish our reality and values. How can anything other than world participation in the ritual of mutual self destruction be possible? Without a heartfelt appreciation of objective human meaning and purpose what is possible other than the catastrophic struggle over the remaining eggs of the now dead goose that laid them?

And we will willingly bring this upon ourselves.

With the development of synthetic & artificial seamen and synthetic & artificial eggs will bring a generation of quasi human cyborgs. This hybrid form of human being will have huge advantages[/b]; mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Bill, we live under an ageing star. In one billion years, all of the oceans will have boiled off.

Very much sooner than that, the Earth will be uninhabitable for unprotected (ie. poor) humans - unprotected from toxic air, heat, extreme storm events, fires, droughts, floods, earthquakes, sinkholes and acid rain.

When commentators speak about how "we" - as in humanity - will have to move to another world to survive in the long term, they are not talking about putting billions of people on a space ship and sending them to a place that's safe from our dying star. It looks me me that the rich and poor will increasingly bifurcate. When groups spend long enough apart, with one group evolving at the usual rate and the other group using technology to speed their advancement, in time they are not going to be peers any more.

This may be necessary to continue regardless of what it may do to us in the near or far future. Is being "human" such a great thing! That's a question we don't often ask. Socrates supposedly said the unexamined life is not worth living but no one ever asks whether that conclusion is not confirmed after having examined it. Maybe we're better off not asking too many questions about the unexamined life!

I think you're a little premature on your goodbyes; we have no idea what's going to happen and how events will play-out. The only thing I know is that humans are a landfill species; if they can't continue the journey the universe will simply trash them. The hows and whys of failure are not important.

We are homo sapiens. We are aware of our individual mortality. We cannot avoid it.

The same is true regarding our species as a whole.

The end is near. :!:
