Respect and Belief and Wellbeing

Post by RWStanding »

Respect and Belief and Wellbeing
Freedom of belief has opposing wings.
1 We may respect the right of everyone to have a belief.
2 We may respect all beliefs or faiths.
3 We may submit to one belief.
Each of those is self-limiting.
1 Requires tolerance where there are differences, but must oppose belief that is not mutually beneficial.
2 Requires individual autonomy to avoid conflict
3 Requires obedience.
Mutual benefit may be defined as wealth or wellbeing - holistic wellbeing of the whole planet.
Wealth as material goods is not a value, and cannot be directly related to values.
Such wealth may be entirely destructive or morally destructive – a GDP for its one sake.

What if one believes one race superior to another, and that selective breading to rid the earth of the inferior is better?

What I want to provoke with this is the difficulty that such issues eventually come to the edge of action. This is at issue in the grounding of the American constitution, for instance, the founders held that Free Speech was so profound a Liberty that even if a regime destructive of the human being, e.g., Nazi or Bolshevik, were at the moment of coming to power, one could not restrict it. However, long ago, especially since the Civil War, this notion has fled. Hate Speech becomes a ever larger category. The theoretical limit is the Harm Principle.

Well, what is belief? That is an issue. It is, after all, in practice, rather difficult to believe against the mob view. It's easy to bring scorn on the weak mind of whoever can not think against the mob view, but, in fact, de facto, group thinking is a power to be reckoned with. One thinks, in extremis, of Orwell. Who did not merely invent or make fiction, but glanced at the Post-Soviet regime, in advance of its propaganda reaching full throttle.

As one will know, principle and reality are two different things. Although, strict sense, the Indians weren't citizens. That is a right of the citizens to promote views conducive to the "good of the whole", rather than to a faction. One must take more consideration of reality if one is to get any profit from studying the Legislative Art, which is more commonly known as Political Philosophy. By which I mean it's no use merely pointing out abuses of Justice, as though a feeling for Justice implied the possibility of the reality of Justice. That is a great difficulty.

Now, one might say, the Natural Right, rather than the Civil right to Free Speech (i.e., the Citizen's right), which is spoken in the Founding Document, is in play. All men are created equal. There, one can make an argument to Oppression, because of the flat contradiction of the principle.

Although, there, it is a long story. Since if one asks about the interpretation in terms of intention of the Founders, one may discover the meaning is "equal" in the "eyes' of God", not men. And then further difficulties would follow.
