Baggage of Memory

Baggage of Memory

Over-reliance upon mind can become a religion of intelligence. We place great faith in intelligence... sometimes too much. The results of intelligence begins with intellect - the engine for memory. Without memory what intelligence would we have? But we do retain the flame of intellect, (burning in different degrees for each of us), to encourage survival.

Intellect allows for our accumulation of facts we've gathered within ourselves by our interest in what we've retained. One becomes intelligent by gathering and remembering those facts that mold our ego-existence. This is our mask we wear before society. Intelligence is good! But intelligence is not as good as intellect - the ability to run mind.

There is much more to our life, our personal, everyday social interaction with others, than memory has given us. There is a state of mind that is within reach ( it's never left) that transcends memory. You become cleansed of all memory. Nothing left but intellect, at ease within life. The mirror of ego-self, that mask we all wear, slides away. We are no longer a reflection but authentically Self... standing without memory we simply know there is vastly more to existence that what our memory has retained... far more than mind can grasp.

Mind is our tool for survival... it provides facts gathered from learning, from observing, for our need to know. Mind can work us to death - questions, questions, questions... this need to know becomes addictive ! We crave more and more knowledge... getting so mentally obese that we become dis-eased. Mind pumping away facts and figures, names, places, faces, wants, needs.... never shutting off the mind, we become mind.

But there is more than mind, more than intelligence, more than our accumulated memories. We have the ability to treat mind for what it is - a tool. We can use mind and not allow mind to use us. Mind over-swollen with memory needs to emptied from time to time. Clean it out, like a basement or attic filled with both sense and non-sense, there is so much our passing years saves. Sometimes these things bring back awful memories. They can make us un-at-ease with our life.

Imagination ! the fuel that powers memory. Do we not initially become inspired by something before we pursue it? Inspiration is that spark within imaginings that we are drawn to... like moth to flame we connect with our 'sparkle' of inspiration. So inspired, we begin our learning process by whatever it is that sprung from our imaginings for knowing that particular 'subject', (in its broadest meaning).

Yes, I’m beginning to take this into the metaphorical "Land of Awes". I have no choice. It is how I currently view the big 'it'... a frame of mind that dissolves duality - judging, discriminating, intellectualizing... mind games! Enjoy it but don't allow it to control your Self that lies beyond mind... your original face before you were born... it's not a reality to be measured and memorized. It is a truth that awaits your acceptance of no-mind.
