Can anybody suggest other philosophical magazines or web sites to read?

you could try out professional Philosophy Journals. There are lots of them spread out over the web looking for somebody who cares to read them. They are usually written by university professors and the likes, and tend to be heavy. But some are interesting, I've read some myself and they are not bad once you get past the first terrifying bomb of strange words and sentences.

This is the world's most popular academic philosophy blog. Good way to keep up with recent trends but you will have to go through the inevtiable job adverts, etc.

The very best place to start one's study of philosophy is with a good "intro to philosophy" textbook.

One very good one is Core Questions in Philosophy by Elliot Sober. I am not suggesting that the Sober text is right on everything (or on anything, for that matter). But, in order to come to understand the various philosophical problems that have exercised people for a couple of thousand years and accomplish this in the most efficient way, having an academic philosopher help is the best way.
