Philosopher's "Salon"

Post by RachelAnn »

Please advise:
JetJason suggested the idea of creating a discussion salon of sorts. JetJason's role model is Madame Pompadour:
http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/colle ... ature1.htm
My role model is Rahel Vanhagen:
http://www.culturaljudaism.org/ccj/bibliography/270
I have set up an account -- rag4pn@hotmail.com -- in order to discuss philosophy live online. Perhaps it is like video conferencing?!!? I have a webcam on my laptop and no clue as to how to use it but heck, I can learn. Also, I use UBUNTU.
Any practical advice and tips you might offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, RachelAnn

My msn is peter@laughingmonkey.fsnet.co.uk, I'm happier typing than using my webcam.

All seems to be working and in order :)

I prefer MSN as a discussion tool, to things such as the facebook messenger.

More about Rahel Van Hagen:
"Hannah Arendt was arrested in her early days for doing work on a Jewish philosopher in the late 1800s, Rachel van Hagen. Arendt's attitude towards Van Hagen is that they were all tricked out of their political nature with the idea of romanticism. Van Hagen ran one of the most celebrated Goethe salons in Germany and Arendt says, Yes, that's fine, but don't you realise that what they've done is to say that you can be a pure individual, you can be a romantic, pure individual as long as you stay out of politics." --Alan Saunders--

I hope Psychonaut and JSJ enjoy their love-in. I'm a little jealous but have very good reasons for protecting my anonymity. It's a drag, as they say. I wish I could be more open - more ME. Sadly, I need to keep some distance behind a daft name (after my favourite film btw) and that is how it is.

I love the thought os some live chat or attending a conference/event/open day/freaky happening but...I move in restrictive circles, mainly professional. I can't do anything wihtout an enhanced CRB check in my line of work and that looks set to continue.

I wish you well and am with you in spirit. :(

Responsibility comes at too great a price for me.

Yes, like me.
Anyhoo, MSN doesn't even require false details; it doesn't require details at all.

I haven't done any webcammage with the philosophy now people, and don't intend to.

Nono, it's all textual for me, which though it sounds like sexual, is sadly not.

If I revealed my naked butt in front of the webcam, the world would never eat cottage cheese again.
