Everyone seems to get the hell out quite quickly..

I never understand why Liverpool is proud of the Beatles, as soon as they got famous they got well shot of the place.

I'm in Sheffield. It's not the North West but it seems to be the nearest to you so far.

It's a bit far for a discussion group though. Especially a discussion group with only two members. Perhaps Koyaanisqatsi was right about the north. It's a bit piss for some things. :(

There's an org called 'philosophy in pubs' in Liverpool.

So far we have proof only of shitness for philosophy now meetup groups, and we could equally turn the accusation on its head and say that rather than the north being shit for that, philosophy now is shit for doing things in the north

I think the shitness lies in philosophers being a bit thin on the ground overall. Sheffield is good if you want green fields and nice surrounding countryside but not if you want deep thinkers. Perhaps Liverpool has more of these.

Ooh that's a very negative post now I read it again. I didn't want to be influenced by Koyaanisqatsi's anti-North post but I was. Well done Liverpool for having a philosophy in pubs organisation, I wish there was something like that here.

But I think different areas have different philosophical cultures and Sheffield is a less philosophical city than some and the north less philosophical than the south, in that there are just fewer people interested. It may be partly because the north is more thinly populated than the south.

I bet they're really coherent and rational after 11 pints.

Socrates was famous for being able to keep philosophising after a night of heavy drinking. He was held up as an example to philosophers for centuries.
They are obviously following the Socratic method. :)

Perhaps we could do a philosophy now discussion group some time :)

I suggest that a sound method would be to copy the 'philosophy in pubs' model
