Hello everyone, My name is Dave, I graduated with the Open University in 2007. My primary interests are Political Philosophy and Ethics, but I am always interested in delving into other branches of philosophy. I am looking forward to meeting you all.
I'm currently into my fourth year of a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics with the Open University myself so nice to come across a fellow student
Hi John.
It is really nice to hear from you. Your degree sounds like a real challenge. My degree was in Humanities with Philosophy. I am looking forward to meeting up with you in the forums. If you come across anything tasty perhaps you could let me know? Hope to speak with you soon.
I think the idea of doing something for the sake of it implies that it has no purpose. So I will have to answer 'No'. According to Dr Johnson, 'All knowledge (is) pleasing in its first effects, and may subsequently be useful' (Samuel Johnson, collected letters, 25 March 1774, p144). I tend to agree with him.
Surely, if knowledge is pleasing in its first effects, it has already satisfied a purpose. I really can't see where you are going with this. Are you claiming that some acts have no purpose?
Hi everybody. I am a dirty Mick from Southern Wales. I have spent my life in and out of pubs wandering the streets of London and ending up in France on drunken binges. I swam the chunnel. I also like old people and watching people poop.
I am your typical Englishman, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!
