Overall it seems relatively humane to me to rush help to the elderly in group homes. Many of them have been abandoned there and don't have a whole lot to look forward to besides death and COVID is apparently a pretty nasty way to die.
Old folks in nursing homes aren’t a drain on the system.
They’re the cash cow of an industry.
Here’s how it works for the silent majority. Most people work their whole lives to make a little less than what they need, or a little more. They maintain their homes because that’s their greatest asset, that is the material form of their life-force here on earth, and a well-kept home is worth more. It's protected by the constitution.
When they get old, they give it all to the nursing home in exchange for living there until they are dead. At that point they are helpless. But they are not a burden. They upheld their end of what many would say is a lopsided bargain. They gave everything up-front, in exchange for care until they die.
No, the burden on society is the cheaters. Cheating in elections is but one form of cheating. Those who cheat by not upholding their end of a life-bargain, and who hasten the final end for those who do uphold the bargain formed in relationship, are the spiritual drain on the soul of a nation.
Higher turnover. Greater profits, don’t you know.
Natural reactions to conditions in more socialistic countries, or minds, may condition more aggressive, selfish, and shall we say inhumane attitudes towards needlessly ending life. For instance: “When one dies and when another is not born, more for me! Yeah!”
'Cash cow' indeed. And for 'care' that is substandard and cruel with unqualified staff, even in the most expensive facilities.
No wonder those kind of businesses (including 'palliative' specialists) are the ones who shout the loudest against euthanasia.

However, the sooner someone dies, the sooner those businesses can collect the entire wealth of someone else.
I wonder what really motivates them to oppose euthanasia.

No, because with proper laws someone could make the decision to have euthansia before they had to go into one of those vile waiting-room's for death.
Plus, when someone signs over their house, those places can only take the percentage of the house value that the person has used for their 'care'.
I wonder if those facilities kill off their residents once the value of the property has been used up..

It doesn't matter if they have cash or not. It doesn't matter if they are a "drain on the system" or not. They're human beings like all of us, however, a bit more vulnerable to COVID than many. We'll all be where they are someday if we don't go sooner.

Sure money matters. Money and its equivalent is the difference between sleeping on the sidewalk over a heating grate, and security/comfort.
Perhaps you meant: The source of money should not matter when life is on the line. That's especially easy to say when it's one's own life and not one's own money.
The US govt. does provide nice hospice plans. If you want to die at home you get pretty much anything you need, including daily massages.

That's PC bullshit. Children and the young are far more important and valuable than old people at death's door who've had their lives.

It's called consideration, compassion and empathy toward others.

How nice.
Hope you didn't strain your brain composing that reply, Gary.
Certainly nicer than Democratic governors and health officials in New York and Pennsylvania deliberately and knowingly transferring infected patients into nursing homes, resulting in thousands of deaths and an award for NY governor Cuomo.
Certainly nicer than Rachel Levine pictured below, who took his/her mother out of long-term care just before the Covid-infected were transferred into nursing homes, but neglected to take out other non-infected, helpless, innocent folks who don’t have rule-of-man, personal political connections characteristic of the ruling class.

Hmm. A long blonde wig. So a long blonde wig is all it takes to turn an ugly man into an even uglier woman.
