'20/'21: not safe for anyone
Re: 2020: not safe for anyone
Governments make laws including laws about physician assisted dying. Politicians were influenced in their decisions by public feelings about physician -assisted dying. The American states that have a law that allows physician assisted dying are , generally, the more liberal democratic states, and the least influenced by religious fundamentalism.Dontaskme wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 12:51 pmWe know dying with dignity is an option available.
But it's not available for everyone, that's the problem.
Who gets to decide if someone who doesn't want to be alive anymore cannot have their life terminated in a humane way? I'm not talking about mentally or terminally ill, or severely depressed people here. Who gets to decide when a person has a mental disorder and cannot make up their own mind about whether they want to live or die.And yet when someone who has a perfectly healthy pet cat who just happens to display agressive anger issues towards their owner, it suddenly becomes a problem, and they can just take the cat to the vet and have it's life terminated without question.
Terminal illness is one reason for wanting to die, but laws can permit certain quite healthy people to do so too. For instance somebody who is chronically paralysed and feels life is not worth living might be euthanised by doctors. There are plentiful safeguards in place to protect the sufferer's autonomy against for instance predatory relatives.
As far as I know people who cannot make reasoned decisions about voluntary dying are not granted the right to decide.

Socialists and intellectuals are not all that gullible. Actually intellectuals are more likely than MAGAs to test a hypothesis .

sure they (you) are...you're socialists...your glasses are rose-colored
as for intellectuals: in my 58 years, every intellectual I've ever encountered had a surplus of arrogance, inadequate common sense, and a mediocre cogitatin' organ

Re: apocrypha?
This middle finger thing is contrary to my understanding. Ever since I was a child I was told it was from where the two finger (akin to: fuck you) salute came from - as in they - the frogs - would chop our long bow dudes TWO fingers off, and those wise chaps that were still had all appendages correctly intact would stand on the ramparts putting the two fingers up.
I always though the middle finger was a later addition from perhaps gang culture.
- eventually Churchill turned it into the Victory symbol.
Re: 2020: not safe for anyone SOCIETY IS CLOSED

If you ain't got a phone, society is closed to YOU, that's means stay locked in your house and never come out again, you hear?
What you gonna do now Henry? take the jab Henry, just do it!...

'One way of opening up society would be those people who have had vaccinations carrying some kind of QR code or some sort of immunity certification which shows that they have been tested.'
Of course, no one will ever be forced to take the jab, but if you don't, then screw you.

'murica is big, full of unruly folks, on the verge of a violent, internal sumthin' or other...implementin' that kind social control would be like throwin' gasoline on a fire
