Philosophy forums and random phrase generators

Post by alan1000 »

How long does it take a philosophy forum moderator to shut down a random phrase generator? My initial hypothesis is, a potentially infinite period of time, and perhaps never. There might be several reasons for this.

(1) it's just possible that the RPG might actually be a philosopher offering original and exciting insights, and the moderators don't wish to confess to a lack of comprehension.

(2) nobody wants to be seen to discourage "freedom of speech".

(3) the forum in question does not require that posts be intelligible within the context of philosophical discourse (or, indeed, normal human discourse of any kind).

(4) all of the above.

Normally a few days I think, except on this forum. This is a veeeery special forum. There is no moderation at all, and there are a number of human users here who wouldn't pass a Turing test even if their lives depended on it.

There's, quite obviously, a deep misconception at the radix of this thread.

Well, don't keep us in suspense.

I've aged beyond me years. I seem to have forgotten whatever it was that I had hit upon. There's a 99.99% chance that it's unimportant. Ah! I believe I (mis)remember now - it's got something to do with Veritas, the woman, a beautiful young girl actually, platinum blonde, blue, blue eyes, a complexion many would kill for, who went missing, 1910 or was it 1856, somewhere between north country and the deep south (do pardon me, I have Alzheimer's, only a matter of time before I, before I, what did I want to say?). She left a note. Palmer read it and before I could, I didn't know how ta read anyway , he tossed it into the Hudson. "Not your concern Iqbal" he said. I must pray. Allah rahim :)

Mr Smith putting the central question to the test I see.

As he's always done.

Dear Agent Smith was asked to leave The Philosophy Forum. They had regrets. He always took criticism politely. He was likable. But they'd had enough of incoherency. I don't think he's an RPG and was much more coherent there. I assume an AI would get more clear, not less clear, unless it's goal was to test moderation. He follows the beat of some other drummer. I suggested that he slowed down my use of the forum since I wasn't so interested in his posts, and if he posted in a thread I was interested in, I'd have to go check to see if someone else had posted before him. He was very kind about all that, but is chugging along in his own vein.

Ah, well. No biggie.

I think you'd probably have to get up to near criminal activity to be moderated here.

The necromantic dung beetle specialises in uncovering long dead turds and very slightly agitating them back to life. This thread was forgotten a year ago, and yet here we are, almost discussing the meagre point it raised.
