The toe indeed touches new river water with each fresh dunking, but not even the Big Toe has enough access to consciousness to discern the new water from one moment to the next, although an unimpaired, oxygen-rich blood flow to the digit does improve sensory sensitivity and thus by raising toe consciousness a little bit, elevates consciousness for both all the parts and the sum.
