There are no absolutes in the world of duality, only relativities. Both sides are fighting for the presumed good. They are shadowed by its opposite. Both sides are capable of atrocities. The Dark Knight is also dual, he cannot be absolutely evil in a dual system of good and evil. If ethical norms are challenged and followed by chaos they are shadowed by its opposite. The Dark Knight has no control over that, he cannot make anything absolute.
