DUCK! What came first - the Verb or the Noun?

What did you say? And what did you mean by it?

Not for a rat. It's an appropriate word, then.

The association of the word with people was entirely yours, not mine. Sorry.

Actually rats are essential to the food chain and highly intelligent--unlike humans.
And why the disingenuous 'sorry'? You do seem to struggle with your reading comprehension of the simplest concepts and comments.

It's not an ad hominem. It's an observation.

Which came first: the vermin, or the exclamation.
Vermin is a horrible word, and in the case a humans, very much a case of 'pot calling kettle black'.
'Vermin' is like 'weeds' : live creatures in the 'wrong' place. That's to say 'vermin' is entirely evaluative, despite some people's belief values are written on stone tablets by God.

I like and appreciate what some narrow minded neighbours might consider to be weeds in my gravel drive.
I discourage rats in my house in case they chew the wires and start a fire. Kettle or pot, I am proud to be black.

Well, veggie is an excellent advocate for vermin.
