Quote of the day...the sequel
Since some have been complaining that I have "fouled" the other "Quote of the day" thread with numerous quotes from the great minds past and present, I thought it wise to create a new thread.
Please note:
1] only one quote per day
2] preferably somewhere in the general vicinity of philosophy
3] absolutely nothing from The Onion

Re: Quote of the day...the sequel
Honestly! Why don't you rename the title of this thread appropriate to what you are actually doing in OUR (Walkers) "Quote of the day" thread - rather than continuing to destroy that one!?iambiguous wrote: ↑Tue Oct 18, 2022 5:21 pm Since some have been complaining that I have "fouled" the other "Quote of the day" thread with numerous quotes from the great minds past and present, I thought it wise to create a new thread.
Maybe call this thread Biggys Quotes of the Day???
Re: Quote of the day...the sequel
Consider that everything everyone does, is caused by need.
Then the answer to "why," in your posting, is need.
He needs to flame.
You need an explanation.
I need to explain the principle.
Any analysis of what causes each need is likely to be some convoluted, psychological rabbit hole, personal to the needy.

Re: flaming the other quote thread ...
Considering the big picture yields two conclusions.
1. He's not harming anyone.
2. Whatever he writes may, in some way, be of benefit to some unknown person. In the avalanche of quotes a gem made bright by someone's need may suddenly shine forth and change the world through the doing of that inspired person, who heard just the way it is in the world, at just the right time to hear it.
One could even say, he uses the shotgun approach to quoting.
(You may quote me, but in full, and with attribution.)

My favourite quote of the day is:
"Don’t fuck with me, Immanuel"
"Don’t fuck with me, Immanuel"

"If you missed Game 1 of the 2022 World Series, you missed a good one," he said to himself, then later said to others, thereby making the inner the outer, by thinking the same thought as millions of others.

Do you hear? Drop that phone.
Invention is the mother of necessity!
There, that explains it. Could we possible get any closer to the present en masse than with baseball? Perhaps, with that other football game, the low scoring one, and thus the one with such low expectations shared by millions, planet wide.
Baseball, uniquely American, and of course copied by the predictable Pacificers, who long to be as free as Rockin' Greasers.

If the link stink ... I shall erase after watching.

Certainly can't erase that one. It links the personal to the universal.
5:11 to 5:16 is a well-placed five seconds that summarizes the rest.

Question: How is Rhino like a quotation?iambiguous wrote: ↑Tue Oct 18, 2022 5:21 pm Since some have been complaining that I have "fouled" the other "Quote of the day" thread ...
Answer: You can hide a Rhino in plain sight by putting it in a herd of Rhinos, and you can hide a good Quote by hiding it in a herd of Quotes, however, a Quote is a much stranger animal than a Rhino, but you have to give it to Rhinos. Even though we know that Rhinos do conjugate, do they even congregate?
