Would you like to live your life again ?

Post by duszek »

Exactly the same way, no variation, the same mistakes, the same miseries, the same joys.

Or is one time just enough or even too much for some of us.

What would be the point of repeating all of your life again knowing exactly what was going to happen
Even if you had a particularly good one it would still be less interesting due to pre existing knowledge

Like a prisoner in your own body?
Front row seat to the movie of your own life?
Without the ability to make any choices?

I can't think of anything more terrifying. Irrespective of whose life it is that I am reliving.

That´s a good point. I also thought about this problem and I decided that for the life to be exactly the same it would have been deleted from the person´s memory completely.
So one only decides to live the life again but when the life gets restarted the person is not knowing what is about to happen next.
Otherwise the person would not be the same, it would be a kind of Cassandra person.

This question is not mine. I got from a story by Giacomo Leopardi.
A man in the street was asked by a seller in the street to buy a calander for the new year and the man in the street asked the seller this question and the seller decided that no, thank you.

Either this or with a complete memory loss so that you repeat the experience with the same emotions.

If you erase my memory then it's a moot thought experiment.
I can't be sure that I am not re-living my life now. Neither can you.

What re-living would entail is being able to experience without ability to influence.
Only input - no output.

Being able to see (and remember) every upcoming mistake, while being able to DO nothing to stop the train wreck.

Yes, every mistake but also every joyful moment.

Just an idea:

maybe this is what hell and heaven are about:

One has to see one´s life again and again, eternally.
The good ones enjoy it and are in heaven, the evil ones are suffering forever.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

This thought experiment could be used as a test if one is doing the right thing in one´s life.
If you are frightened by reliving your life then you should do something about it and change your life thoroughly.
If you would love to relive your life then you are on the right way.

No hypocrisy or self-denial possible.
