My answer -- a happy thought. Thoughts are mental food.
Based on that analogy, there's much junk food in the public domain at present. It seems like good informational food these days are only available at speciality outlets, certainly not the big "News Marts", their shelves laden with fear, anger and misery.

Bravo. Watching the news is deadly. People are at risk of believing that world leaders are actually real people of some value, and that it's important to be kept up to date with all the latest evidence of inhumanity.

All we really need is the latest news from our Self, True Self, Spirit or Spiritual Consciousness, which, if people could tune in to their own 'station' might be the only good news they ever get. 'Good morning, this is You with breaking news from your Self ... You are good, You are beautiful, You are honest, and You never did anything bad. Even though your mind makes all your mistakes, You can't blame your mind because You are above its evil and You are too good to even know what evil is. Your friend Conscience knows what evil is, but doesn't judge it; it just issues warnings....

I sense that many substance abusers may be trying to find an (impossible) easy way to happiness -- perhaps by figuratively 'eating mental Cheerios'?. If we can tune in to our 'Good News Station of Self', our mental diet is better, because that's where the 'best food' comes from. Everyone has a 'Self-Service Food for Life Department' that just needs to be found 'way in the back' and 'dusted off'. Thanks, Greta. It's a thing now. I knew it would be, because 'Thoughts are things'. (Prentice Mulford). Sorry if I've been a bit 'grumpy'. You'd be too, if you had to be me. Laughing saves me. Whoops, my secret is out.

It looks like Aaliyah's answer to the OP is spam.

The better the food gets, the pickier and choosier we become. Yesteryear's sitcom that we laughed at then, is trite trivial trapsy now. Socrates is found to be full of holes. (Fallacies.) Kant can't.

It's called "declining return of marginal utility".

The only things that are always good, however, die out by themselves: sex, life, music.

The only thing that prevails is humour.

True!

Smokes challenge the system, too.

Volume also counts. My family doctor said a pack of smokes a day puts as much stress on the system as gaining 15 lbs (7 Kg) bodyweight.

Which, interestingly, is about how much weight people tend to gain after quitting.

But the love, confusion, gratitude, empathy, self-focus, wonder, horror, curiosity, weariness, imagination and fear remain.

Oats. Constipation problems may disappear if one is not eating meat.

The greatest thing about oats is you can use instant oatmeal for baking instead of flour. Flour ruins the villi, creating malnutrition, abdominal distension (pot bellies are not from fat), and contributes to the ultimate horror, colon cancer, removal, and having a hole in one's side for discharge.
