Been musing this, and I keep returning to the word, "something."

I think the hatred you are qualified to identify and label is specific to Christianity, because others are admired for their belief in, and dedication to other things, such as money, power, and the credo: By any means necessary, which of course includes the worst means if deemed necessary by the perp.

Whoa. This movie is ripe for some woke revisionism. It's a PC refugee:

The woke view sees this clip as Humphrey and his comrades ignorantly raping the land for personal gain.

The woke historical revisionism sees pure, indigenous peoples who are merely attempting to defend their way of life and repel these European invaders. The hard-working agrarians who have been here forever, who just want to live their lives in unmolested peace, neither recognize nor respect the right of these smelly foreigners with their alien social systems to demand, “Your papers, please.” This is because individual autonomy is an inherent aspect of human nature that manifests under certain conditions for certain individuals, such as these brave defenders of individualism forced into the conditions of protecting their ancestral lands … and then insulted with laws whose authority they don’t recognize, laws that demand identification badges that streamline processing for the endless data gathering of the invaders.

WWI: Disillusionment.
1920’s: Life is short, live it up.
1931: Bitterness over losing, or missing, the twenties.

1931 self-promotion film to create a culturally-appropriate, personal persona.

Commentary: They're banning gas powered lawn-mowers and such in California. That retooling will be rather expensive for all those small-business landscapers, not to mention all the other consequences that are so obvious that they must be intended consequences, rather than unintended consequences.

Smells like: special interests writing legislation and legislators getting rich on insider trading ... this is the system in the US.

There’s best scenes, and then there’s iconic scenes.

Question: What power causes a man to howl?
* Answer: the need for redemption and forgiveness that will end torment.

What does the scene show you?

* Relevant to both human nature, and Christianity.

Your comment says otherwise....
if you say so it must be so.
I'm not judging. Actually I can't stand 'proud teetotalers'. All the best people have been drunkards, mainly thinkers who find life unbearable otherwise.
..tis Y i fall off the wagon so often, then the p**** driving the horses behind runs me over, the wagon wheels break bits and pieces of me, but eventually I climb back aboard!

Cloud Atlas - ..."what'd the law do for Felix fucking Finch"

Felix Finch is the book critic that got thrown off a balcony by the author of Knuckle Sandwich (A scot played by Tom Hanks) these are his brothers, more Scottish thugs dealing with the rather hapless publisher, while he is on the toilet!
