Website improvements

Post by RickLewis »

Bora Dogan has been working hard behind the scenes to improve the Philosophy Now website. Much of his work is invisible - but will make various things function better. A few changes that are visible are:

1) In the Philosophy Now online shop it is now possible to buy 2-year subscriptions to the magazine (thus saving some money) as well as subscriptions for a single year.

2) Those who buy subscriptions via the online shop will automatically be given a user account on the Philosophy Now website. This account will only have two features initially - it will let them change their password, and it will tell them when their subscription is due to expire. Previously, people had to use the hard-to-remember passwords allocated by our software and couldn't change 'em. So far, the improvement only applies to new subscriptions - existing subscribers still need their old username and password to log in. We're still working out how best to let our existing subscribers change their passwords.

3) IP-based, campus-wide access to Philosophy Now for colleges and universities is now available in the shop.

4) The "Philosophy Now" logo at the top of the forum now links to the main page of the Philosophy Now website (thanks to Metazoan for that suggestion!)

5) The link to this forum from the main page of the Philosophy Now website has been simplified by taking out an intermediate page.
