Knowledge is boundless
Knowledge is boundless
Knowledge is about the relation between subjects. Some subjects refer to objects. Objects are boundless (this is discussed here). Therefore, knowledge is boundless.

Re: Knowledge is boundless
Subjects as in people? As in grammatical structure? And if knowledge is only about the relation between subjects, that doesn't actually tell us what knowledge is. What is it, exactly, that's about the relation between subjects?
Re: Knowledge is boundless
Subjects as in mind of people.
Grammatical structure are subject too but the complex one.
The relation between subjects is a subject too. I mean we understand knowledge as we understand a grammatical structure. When you say you know something you mean that you comprehended something in the past.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:51 am And if knowledge is only about the relation between subjects, that doesn't actually tell us what knowledge is.
Think of a long trip. You may have done many different things on that trip each day. But you know that for example, you have done many things each day. That is a sort of knowledge that is related to your activities which can be explained further if it is required.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 11:51 am What is it, exactly, that's about the relation between subjects?

Re: Knowledge is boundless
If we're talking about persons/ their minds, that's not boundless.
Re: Knowledge is boundless
That is another issue, whether we can exhaustively know everything.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 12:26 pm If we're talking about persons/ their minds, that's not boundless.

It's not another issue of you're claiming that "Knowledge is boundless," "Knowledge is about the relation between subjects" and subjects are persons' minds.bahman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:08 pmThat is another issue, whether we can exhaustively know everything.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 12:26 pm If we're talking about persons/ their minds, that's not boundless.

Knowledge is about the relation between subjects that in principle could be known.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:11 pmIt's not another issue of you're claiming that "Knowledge is boundless," "Knowledge is about the relation between subjects" and subjects are persons' minds.bahman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:08 pmThat is another issue, whether we can exhaustively know everything.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 12:26 pm If we're talking about persons/ their minds, that's not boundless.

What if the world is temporally boundless but subjects are not? Then what could be known wouldn't be boundless, would it?bahman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:18 pmKnowledge is about the relation between subjects that in principle could be known.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:11 pmIt's not another issue of you're claiming that "Knowledge is boundless," "Knowledge is about the relation between subjects" and subjects are persons' minds.

Yes, for sure. But there is a big if in the first question.Terrapin Station wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:20 pm Then what could be known wouldn't be boundless, would it?

Re: Knowledge is boundless
There may be a potentially boundless amount of knowledge available, but, how much knowledge do you think a human brain could potentially store before it reaches capacity, I doubt the capacity for the human brain to retain knowledge is infinite.
So the potentially known will always be more than we can in theory know. So, we will never know everything, based on your understanding.

Knowledge is mind-bound. It's an internal representations of external reality (justified belief). That we can hypothetical gain knowledge forever isn't meaningful.
Objects are also not boundless. The Actual universe is stuff, not things. Things are our bespoke delineation of things from that stuff according to purpose and we can only create so many.

Re: Knowledge is boundless
bahman,
Knowledge is bounded by our senses, for they both enable and limit our ability to know reality, indeed our senses are no guarantee that what we take for reality is indeed reality. Our apparent/everyday reality is as it seems due to the nature of our own biology, apparent reality is biological interpretation a biological readout if you will. The apparent reality is dependent upon the biology of the organism and is no indication of the ultimate reality that we have no access to. Apparent reality is utterly dependent upon the state of one's biological consciousness. Knowledge is about the relation between subject and object thus the object to be known is dependent upon biological consciousness.
Re: Knowledge is boundless
Knowledge is not bounded by our senses. For example, look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Colliderpopeye1945 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 2:39 pmbahman,

I agree that there is a part of reality that we don't have access to it.popeye1945 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 2:39 pm Our apparent/everyday reality is as it seems due to the nature of our own biology, apparent reality is biological interpretation a biological readout if you will. Only the reality that you perceive.popeye1945 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 2:39 pm Apparent reality is utterly dependent upon the state of one's biological consciousness.
The relation between subject and object is perception. Knowledge is about the relation between subjects.popeye1945 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 02, 2022 2:39 pm Knowledge is about the relation between subject and object thus the object to be known is dependent upon biological consciousness.
