extraordinary evidence

Post by Advocate »

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence but it's extraordinarily hard to get a hearing for an extraordinary claim. As truth-seekers, people should never discard any claim unless they can pointedly explain why it isn't worth consideration in a way which the claimant cannot refute effectively. To assume they have no tricks up their sleeve to overcome your objection is to say that extraordinary claims are inherently impossible to take seriously, which leaves the possibility for extraordinary gaps in your understanding of the universe.

Have you read Goebbels' famous "big lie" quotation? The rationality behind it is a popular tactic of the Left.

Basically, it says that people will believe the big lie if they hear it enough.

Extraordinary evidence, part 2: Truth seekers should never accept an extraordinary idea merely based on availability bias. If everyone's talking about it, that means they think it's extraordinary, not that it is extraordinary upon study or reflection.
