It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so. -- Mark Twain
Or more colloquially: assumptions are the mother of all fuckups!
Re: This Unknown Known
You see, making absurd statements and then explaining them with more nonsense is the new religion being preached to us to attain to. If you can't attain that level of insanity, you don't know "ultimate truth".surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 9:15 pm

I'm very happy without it. If it serves some people, great. Just seems unfortunate that this FORUM has so many extremists incapable of balanced perspectives and discussions. Such lop-sided preaching/positioning evades honesty, is not compelling, and eventually isn't even entertaining. Sort of like toxic spill into a pond. Eventually it destroys all life.

A philosophy forum where everyone agreed about the big questions would be rather boring and eventually no one would bother with it at all
We are small in numbers but there is sufficient diversity of opinion to maintain debate upon many subjects which is ideally how it should be

You mean philosophers have been optimising for amusement instead of addressing hard problems all this time?!?! Damn!surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 11:03 pm A philosophy forum where everyone agreed about the big questions would be rather boring and eventually no one would bother with it at all

Self-deprecation is a desirable property of Problem-solvers! The day we no longer need doctors is the day we have cured all diseases.
Re: This Unknown Known
That which is unknown will eventually become known, but that which is unknowable can never be known.surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 9:15 pm
