Not all of them though, whatever that is.
That is so peculiar. JAWS supports Braille.

The above is written in Braille.
Braille is embossed, as I'm sure you know.

Of course, I know.

The Braille font I used encodes the embossings

If I had a Braille display I could read it. But I don't.

The tactile output of JAWS isn't encoded in Braille?

It's a voice synthesiser. Hence the term screenreader.

Yeah... terminology can be confusing.

Reading the screen is one thing.
Writing the result to a voice synthesizer; or a Braille display is another.

So, don't you find it a bit ironic that a tool which is aimed at aiding the visually impaired (who use Braille. A lot) can't actually read Braille?

It reads what's on the screen. I can also get it to read punctuation, or switch to spelling out individual letters, if I want to.

Why would it need to? How often is Braille used as a font? It's for reading by touch, not on a screen.

It's used as often as it needs to be used.

How do you read Braille from a screen?

Braille is a tactile script. It can't be read from a screen without a Braille display. It doesn't even have a one-to-one relationship with normal English text, either.

Assuming it's a clean sheet of glass, yes people don't really "know" it's there until they get close to it.

When you're really close to a clean sheet of glass, there is small enough disruption and refraction to "see" it.

Presumably people pick up on the non-visual cues.

Numbers are represented by letters, for instance, with a number signifier. Capital letters are signified in a similar way, and there are a lot of contractions, too. The string "and" wherever it occurs is always represented by a single symbol, for example.
