to grok Consciousness

Post by Advocate »

There is no consensus definition or understanding of consciousness but it can be used more or less synonymously with individuation, self, ego, perspective, being, awareness...

Consciousness can (so far) best be understood as the overlap of many areas of understanding.

Mind is a metaphor for the patterns in the brain. Consciousness is the momentary aspect of the sub-set of mind that is available for introspection.

Anthropologically, consciousness is a feedback loop in our theory of mind.

Neuroscientifically, they're still in the Platonic stage of development - working out the vocabulary and mereology. It's to do with suppression of the default mode network. Cognitive Workplace Theory and Integration Information Theory are popular deconstructions.

Phenomenologically, consciousness is an awareness fairy.

The above is all about the individual consciousness, which covers half the problem of consciousness.
