If a tree falls in space, does it really make a sound?
Or must it do so on Earth?

All trees are in space, and yes, it will make a sound when it falls, when it makes contact with a surface.
What is that surface? ...answer is the mind, aka knowledge.

A tree falling causes a vibration. A sound only occurs when something has the ability to translate the vibration into an audible result.

Generally speaking, fauna. Flora is affected by the vibration and wave of the tree falling but not strictly in the sense of sound.

Well, a tree hitting something causes vibration. In outer space, the tree has nothing to do but fall, which is why they call it free fall. Not very much bonking into things going on, but it happens now and then.
Vibration is an audible result, no translation needed. Wood is not a very efficient conductor of sound, but it gets the job done.A sound only occurs when something has the ability to translate the vibration into an audible result.

Space does not transmit sound waves. Air molecules, or other kinds of molecules can do so. Nevermind BS sci-fi movies.

If a tree falls on a philosopher too dumb to move aside, should anyone care?

Should you care about one who trips himself, or herself, right under a tree, because he or she wasn't wearing the proper shoes, like a hiker wearing flip-flops?

If space falls through a tree is there really a tree?

No sound, no tree, no space, no falling, conditional proposition to ask about it.
