Your ENTIRE Life is One Complete Accident.
..................................................................................................
Constructed by completely specific rules and universal laws, but yet, we experience our lives as one comprehensive accident, composed of smaller, interrelated accidents.
You are nothing.

I think my life is constructed by completely specific rules and universal laws, but yet, I experience my life as one comprehensive accident, composed of smaller, interrelated accidents.Constructed by completely specific rules and universal laws, but yet, we experience our lives as one comprehensive accident, composed of smaller, interrelated accidents.

uk, be nice...
Bill's notion is valid (even if he expresses it oddly), and still I ask: so what?
So what if the sum of a man's life is nothing?
I say it depends entirely on perspective...that is: on the macro scale I'm nothing...fortunately (for me) I don't 'live' on the macro scale; I 'live' on 'my' scale...on 'my' scale, I am my first, best, property and how I use myself is important (to me)...that the universe doesn't notice me...*shrug*...I navigate its indifference.
More simply: when a hurricane comes, I hunker down, or, I run...I never shake my fist at it and roar a challenge.

Re:
Its not a valid inference. I presume he's trying to say ones life can be considered as a series of accidental coincidences and from this one cannot draw the conclusion its nothing. Even then the premise is not necessarily true as many are the result of a choice, i.e. ones parents chose to reproduce and it was no accident that one was born.henry quirk wrote:uk, be nice...

"the result of a choice"
Sure, but much of what's foisted up an any one person is not the result of his or her choice but is instead the accumulated inertia of a whole whack of other folks' choices (mixed in, of course, with what unthinking Reality has to offer).
Take the clip of the car/bike accident above: each of the actors is choosing to be there, doin' this or that...it's the clustering of those choices at a certain time and place that royally fucks each of them.
From the perspective of each: a random horror just 'happened'. That this horror was the result of choices doesn't offer any predictive power to any one who might have witnessed the event (or lived through it).
Practically speaking: it was chaos...it was random...just like "one's parents chose(ing) to reproduce"...Yeah, they fucked to make the baby, and did so with absolutely no guarantee pregnancy would occur, or, that pregnancy would be normal, or, what the sex of the baby would be.
*shrug*

I appreciate your effort to relate to the philosophical concept that I presented here in this thread.
Your articulation & agreement is duly noted.

OK. I'm sorry. I misunderstood the two words that you used.
So...you refute the premise of this thread?
If you do why?...Feel free to use as many words as needed. There's lots of them out here.
