Solution for depression

Post by dattaswami »

Let Me answer your question straight with a simple example
You have caught a hot iron rod with your hand and you are weeping
You are asking Me to remove the heat from the rod and give you happiness
For this you are constantly praying the Lord to use His special power.

I have to laugh at this situation because the easiest solution is to remove
Your hand from the rod to be happy, which you are not doing at all
You cannot get rid of your attachment to the rod, but you pray the Lord
To cool the rod using His Maya, is this prayer justified in any way?

Why don’t you get detached from your family bonds and be happy?
The hand with which you have caught your family members is your mind
You detach your mind from the bonds of your family members
And be peaceful always and there is no need of praying the Lord for this

When the solution is in your hand why do you ask the Lord for it?
When the solution is out of your hands there may be justice in asking the Lord
In the first stage you detach your mind from them and be worry less
In course of time when your detachment by mind becomes complete
You will spontaneously leave your duties also and attain bliss

The detachment from the family comes by your attachment with the Lord
As the bond with the Lord becomes more and more strong, your family bonds
Become weaker and weaker and finally all the bonds disappear
In this state you are left over only with the bond with the Lord

This state is called “Eka Bhakthih” in Gita or the single pointed devotion
Devotion means love and this is related to the plane of mind
As the faculty of intelligence becomes more and more sharp
By the knowledge preached by the Lord, the devotion to Lord

Becomes more and more strong, thus knowledge is acting as
Both fertilizer as well as pesticide on both the sides simultaneously
It acts as a fertilizer for the bond with the Lord, which is like a plant
The plant grows slowly and becomes a huge tree by this fertilizer
The family bonds are like the insects that attack this devotion plant
For those insects this divine knowledge acts as a pesticide also
The knowledge is also the generating factor like the water for the seed
Only by the knowledge of the Lord, the devotion is generated
Devotion is the love or attraction towards the Lord to attain Him
It ends in agony or Vedana as told by Ramanuja, thus knowledge is
The generating factor, the fertilizer and the pesticide simultaneously

Solution for depression

Absence of spiritual knowledge is the main reason for suffering with tensions. Of course, tensions are attacking the soul as punishments of their sins. If the soul gets reformed by realization, repentance and by non-repetition of sin from today onwards, I surely tell all of you that such reformed soul will not face any tension in future since its pending punishments of sins get cancelled by God. Punishment in the form of tension is only for reformation of the soul and if the reformation is attained, there is no need of punishment anymore. Even a devotee is blessed by God to attain this reformation and get relieved from the miseries, which cause depressions.
If you stop repeating the sins from today onwards after realization from spiritual knowledge and repentance based on devotion, all the punishments of the pending sins (samchita) including the present punishment (praarabdha) get cancelled so that you are relieved from all miseries forever. If your reformation is not perfect, your present punishment may not be cancelled as per the concept of Shankara.
Except this one way of practical reformation, you can’t avoid tensions of difficulties through any method like practice of Yoga, thinking that you are God through monism, worship of God etc. Yoga means equal enjoyment of happiness and misery like sweet and hot dishes in a meal. You are failing in this Yoga only due to lack of reformation. The punishment is aimed at temporary reformation of the soul by creating fear in its mind. If the soul attained permanent reformation, there is no need of the punishment of the sin and hence, gets cancelled. Mere devotion without this reformation can’t relieve you from the miseries (salvation) as said in the Gita (kshipram bhavati dharmaatmaa). Even if you don’t please God by doing good deeds, at least don’t make God to become furious on you by doing sins.

First, you must stop your tension realizing that tension will not only be useless in solving the problem, but also is harmful since it removes your energy that is required in the effort to solve your problem. This advice was given by Lakshmana to Rama, who was under tension when Sita was stolen by Ravana. Lakshmana is the incarnation of Adishesha, whose another incarnation is Patanjali, the author of Yoga dealing with control of mind. Hence, this advice is very much valid and shall be accepted like the first-aid-box. The permanent solution is always that you should have strong faith in God and improve your devotion to God so that He will help you in the solution of the problem.

You must think that God Datta is always with you like your bodyguard to fight with the nervousness that attacks you and to protect you from it. Nervousness will surely be defeated by God Datta and it will run away. This is your close relationship with God. If you find the nervousness still attacking you, you should come closer to God by thinking that God is in you. This will almost certainly push away your nervousness because no thief dares to rob the house of the police officer. But if you still find that the nervousness persists, you should become closest to God by thinking that you are God Himself! Now, the nervousness has to run away and it dare not come even close to you since there is no worldly force that can attack the omnipotent God.
The Effect and Cause of Nervousness
The student has limited energy in the brain to think and do useful work. Nervousness consumes that limited energy to such an extent that hardly any energy remains to do useful work. As per the first law of thermodynamics, the energy supplied to a system is partly used in raising the system’s internal energy and only the rest is available for doing useful work. Nervousness is like the internal energy of the system. If all the energy supplied through food is used only in raising nervousness, there is no energy left for doing work.

The situation will be like a computer with no electricity supplied to it. It has all the information stored on its hard disk but in the absence of electrical energy, no information can be displayed on the screen. When the student’s entire energy is consumed in the nervousness, there is no energy left to display the stored right answers in the brain and to write them on the answer script. The devoted student has prepared well for the examinations and the answers are properly stored in the brain. Studying hard and storing the answers in the brain is the duty of the student. But even when there is no deficiency in the student’s effort, the right answers do not come to the student’s mind. The student is not lacking the answers, but is lacking the energy necessary to display the answer in the brain since all the energy is consumed by the nervousness.

What is the cause of this nervousness? The punishment of some sin attacks the student in the form of nervousness, even though the student had performed his or her duty of studying sincerely. The fruits of intense good and bad deeds attack the soul here itself (Atyutkaṭaiḥ pāpapuṇyaiḥ ihaiva phalamaśnute). The fruits of normal deeds are received by the soul in heaven and hell after death. However, if the soul is highly devoted to God, God will provide some chance for the soul to get reformed. Getting settled in life is essential before reformation. Getting a good education is a prerequisite for settlement in life. Passing examinations is like crossing important landmarks in one’s education.

Souls who are not concerned about God, will be attacked by the fruits of their intense deeds in the form of nervousness. One should not blame God in this context because God is impartial in implementing the established rules of the divine constitution regarding the karma chakra or the cycle of deeds. But devotion to God is also a deed and this deed must also have its fruit as per the rule of deeds. Thus, the student suffers from nervousness as a punishment for his or her intense bad deeds. But as a result of his or her devotion, the student also receives help from God. Such help rendered by God to the devotee is justified based on the student’s devotion and hence it does not violate justice in the divine administration.

Try to enjoy the worry
When worry is inevitable, enjoy it and be wise
Even continued happiness leads to mental worry
Thus happiness and worry must be alternative
If you are worried by the continued happiness
You are worried at the cost of the result of your good effort

Instead of this it is better to get worry at the cost of your sin
Let the sin give some trouble and then you worry out of it
In this way the result of the sin is spent and the not the result of good effort
The loss in your present worry may be compensated in the future
But the time lost in your past worry cannot be compensated
Because the life span of any human being is fixed

Your loss may be compensated by million times in the future
But even one second of your lost time can never be compensated
Therefore, understand this and think about the value of the time
This knowledge of the value of time is called as ‘Kala Janana’
Which means the knowledge of the future that you should know,

Which provides the possibility of the compensation of all the loss
Except the loss of time, therefore, time is the most precious.
You may waste anything that can be again procured in the future,
But never waste the time, which you can never compensate.

There are two ways to escape the mental worry in this world
The first way is by obtaining the peace, which is zero
The second way is by achieving the bliss, which is plus
Worry is minus, peace is zero and bliss is plus
To escape minus, either you should be in zero or in plus

Bliss can be obtained only from the Lord in this world
Since Veda says that the Lord alone is bliss “Anando Brahma”
Veda also says that the Lord alone can give you the bliss
“Esha Hyeva Anandayati” this is quite logical in fact
The water is alone cool and so it alone can give coolness
Whatever is said in the Vedas, it is always logical
