Immigration Reform in US

Post by commonsense »

Florida Governor Rick DeSantos flew migrants, who are awaiting their asylum hearings, to Massachusetts this week. About 50 ex-pats were herded onto a chartered airplane and flown to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.

Clearly the Florida Governor wanted to send a message to potential supporters that he will be tough on migrants at the US border with Mexico. And he used homeless immigrants as pawns to dramatize his political message.

But DeSantos raises a legitimate concern for all Americans—how to balance a moral imperative to shelter impoverished refugees with the real need to protect the current citizens and conserve limited resources for generations to come.

So, what can be done to remedy the situation? Is there a middle ground that could satisfy both Liberal and Conservative viewpoints on the matter? Is a balance desirable or even possible? How can America secure its borders against intruders and still be called a land of immigrants?
