epistemology and authority

Post by Advocate »

Any state without an airtight epistemology literally cannot have legitimate authority.

Any such state which nevertheless enforces it's rules is thereby a slave state, ruling people unwillingly and/or keeping them intellectually sedated.

Any such state which nevertheless assumes it's own infallibility is therefore anti-truth and thereby evil.

Because many political decisions are epistemologically complex, any legitimate state must have a well warranted assumption of infallibility.

What would be an example of a state that even has an epistemology?

Epistemological warrant is necessary, not sufficient, for legitimacy.

You don't legitimacy to exist, but you need to exist to attain legitimacy...

So how are we making comments about states' epistemologies?

We might as well be talking about states' country club memberships on Jupiter, where we say that this is correlated in some way to some characteristic.

If your State is not based on a solid epistemology it is at best unsustainable. And buy solid i mean explicit.
