The purpose of government is to provide structure. The purpose of structure is actionable certainty. The purpose of actionable certainty is to customize your life, ie. success.
Everyone is trying to customize their life. That includes when and how to end it. A ridiculous majority of people when asked when they wished to die would choose, "Not yet."
So long as one's right to die is not interfered with, and society can easily provide a simple and painless means, these are completely compatible ideas, and so we can count it as a moral absolute to extend the life of currently existing sentient beings indefinitely on an opt-out basis.
