Faulty premise.

To call reality irrational is irrational.

To discuss a faulty premise can be rational, but why bother?

(Questions including those posing as answers always welcome, although the net is cast wide and some may slip through.)

No, it's the kinda of rule that exposes hypocrisy.

If you can't or won't pull the trigger yourself, you got no friggin' business demanding or expecting some one else to do it for you.

Agreed. If the other is not a bodyguard then to demand such a terrible thing of another is a form of enslavement for both the demander and the obligated.

Well, then why not require someone to hold a person in a cage for 20 years if that person gets a 20 year prison sentence?

The reason why we give the state a monopoly on violence and punishment under the law is to prevent the outbreak of private conflicts. If a private party were allowed to harm another, then that can create bitterness and desire for revenge that does not exist under our present system.

Also, keep in mind, it is the state, and not a private party that brings a criminal charge. The victim is not just the person, but the state. This is why criminal charges can be brought even when the individual victim does not want any charges being brought. So, even if a private person does not want someone killed, that does not resolve the issue, since the victim is also the state itself.

And yet again, we get more delusional statements from Veggie.

"As usual it's all about politics in your nut-job of a country. Why should a guilty person be able to 'plea bargain' while an innocent person who refuses to 'admit' to guilt gets executed? More lost irony--that you are more likely to be executed if you are innocent. There is no rationality."
"People over there don't even seem to care whether the person is guilty or not--they just want their pound of flesh no matter who it is."

Now, keep in mind these delusional comments are coming from a Kiwi, and New Zealand's justice system is so primitive they have a defendant sit separately in the court room away from their own attorney. In the USA, that would be a violation of due process, because a client and attorney should be able to consult with each other during a trial. New Zealand is that ass backwards, that even the most basic due process is denied their criminal defendants.

As far as a person being allowed to plead guilty to avoid a death penalty, that is not always true. There are numerous cases where a prosecutor will still go for a death penalty even if a defendant offers to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence. It is also true that a Defendant can always plead guilty an just fight over whether a death penalty is appropriate.

People in the USA don't care about guilt or innocence? Is that why we have layers of appeals to protect the rights of defendants? Is that why states provide even expert witnesses for impoverished defendants? Or, even those with private representation who can't afford experts? Why do you think it costs more to kill a defendant than give them a life sentence? It's because of all the legal protection given to a defendant.

Yet again, we have a Kiwi posting nonsense about the USA, while disregarding her own country's legal system.

I think it expects me to sing the praises of Kiwiland, that unsophisticated and annoying little rat-hole of a place

Veggie: You already have supported the institutionalized racism of New Zealand.

The 'best' it can come up with. Wow. That little crap-hole must be quite impressive in the human rights department as far as countries go.
