The problem with lazy innuendo based correlation as cause reasoning such as that is that they all have lots of other things in common beyond that tiny subset you have chosen.Bill Wiltrack wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 10:49 pm Happiest Countries in the World - 2018 ALL Have Strong Influence of Democratic Socialism & Atheism

Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Holland, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia is a list of smallish countries (by population) that all have very white populations for instance.
Those are also all countries that have had centuries of protestant government, except the ones whose populations and major state institutions are transplanted from other countries that have.
There's very little chance that anybody in Denmark or Sweden would consider Canada, Australia or Switzerland to have this strong influence of Democratic Socialism you describe either. Only an American would see it that way.
You started a very silly game there, and you are inviting racists to turn your own claims against you because you are stupid.

What a load of bollocks.

8. New Zealand
The island country of New Zealand has only been occupied by humans for about 800 years. From the Blue Mountains to the wild penguins on South Island, there are many beautiful sights to lift locals’ spirits in this thriving ecological paradise. Today it has low levels of pollution and is known as one of the most biodiverse islands in the world. New Zealanders take pride in their local ecology and work hard to protect it. Don't miss the chance to visit the volcano, ancient Maori sites, and craters at Tongariro and Whanaguni (pardon?) National Parks.''
Laughable. Someone's been listening to too much PR bullshit. Who do they ask and what are they asking??
''Take pride in their local ecology..''? Right. It's riddled with PC nitwits who cut down anything that isn't a 'sacred native' i.e. remove all deciduous trees such as oaks and elms (in other words all the beautiful trees) and replace them with 'virtuous' nondescript native crap. Flowers are a no-no (being 'evil colonialist oppressors') while what passes as a 'garden' is a pile of rocks with tufts of brown tussock (which belong on sand dunes) and obnoxious flax triffids and bees be damned (apart from native 'bees' that barely qualify as such and you need a magnifying glass to observe). They vilify adorable and useful hedgehogs and worship giant slugs because said hated 'colonialist hedgehogs' might eat sacred giant native slugs (that no one has ever seen). Of course, they don't mind non-native cows that pollute all the rivers, creating toxic algae and other ecological disasters, because there is a shitload of money to be made from the dairy industry.
Hmm. Perhaps they don't realise that humans are not native to their shores. If they did, then naturally they would remove themselves as the 'noxious vermin' that they are.

A garden lover's nightmare.
Oh, and if you are foolish enough to go there you will be hounded by locals demanding to know what you think of the place (if you can understand a word they are saying). Don't be fooled by the faux friendliness and 'no worries bro's and 'gudday mate's. For the love of god don't answer in anything but glowing terms and positive superlatives-- unless you enjoy being head-butted.
Don't forget that NZ has 150000 earthquakes a year, so if the thought of being flattened pancake-style in a shoddy pile of 1970s rubbish appeals to you then by all means feel free to go there. The people are so stupid that after one particularly large faultline movement the modern Kiwi-built 'earthquake proof' buildings fell down, while the old historic ones held firm. And what was the Kiwi response to that? Pull down the attractive old historic ones (evil colonialist....you get my drift) and replace them with shipping containers.
Of course they will go on and on ad nauseum about bloody 'Lord of the Rings'. Much of it was filmed in an artificial park (complete with dastardly non-native trees), with litter bins and barbecue tables just out of camera view. Toxic slime was of course carefully edited out of river scenes.
The NZ national symbol is the kiwi bird, a dull, drab creature of practically no brain. It's the only bird that lays an egg bigger than itself. No wonder it can't fly.

Re: Happiest Countries in the World - 2018 ALL Have Strong Influence of Democratic Socialism & Atheism
I'm not sure why anyone would think the person who wrote this post was either stupid or encouraging racism. To me that's absurd.
I think the post does raise a philosophical issue regarding epistemology. How in the world could anyone accurately measure the "happiness" in one nation compared to another? It's my understanding that these claims are all based on asking people four questions, and they self-report their level of happiness. That's not very scientific. It's not like measuring an object's mass, or temperature, or the amount of voltage across a circuit element.
If someone asked me if I am happier today than I was last year, I wouldn't even know how to answer the question.
And how can we accept the answers? If Bill Gates aid he was not happy, and a homeless guy said he was, should we really accept their claims?
Why are people, including journalists, so willing to accept claims like these regarding happiness when a moment's reflection would reveal that the claim is likely unsubstantiated nonsense on steroids? Lack of critical thinking? A desire to promote an ideological belief?

Flash: How come you called Bill stupid, while claiming I owe Gaffo an apology? How come you claim to be so against racism, that you falsely accused Bill of being racist with this post, while bending over backward trying to justify Gaffo's anti-Semitism?

Read my post properly. I didn't accuse bill of racism, but I can't help but accuse you of laziness and trying much too hard to pick an argument.Science Fan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 5:02 pm Flash: How come you called Bill stupid, while claiming I owe Gaffo an apology? Flash: You denying that you called him "stupid"? You denying that you stated his post would be used to justify racism, which was completely lazy thinking, if we can even call that type of speculation thinking, on your part?
It's you who started with me, not the other way around. I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy.

Oh my God. I'm not going to waste a lot of time on you just because you are pissy at me for some other thread and getting obsessive about it elsewhere. I don't need an enemies list, and I don't give a fuck about yours.Science Fan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 8:33 pm Flash: You denying that you called him "stupid"? Of course I don't deny calling Bill stupid. He is an idiot.
Of course I do deny that I claimed his post would be used to justify racism. I have no idea whether anyone will bother, I wrote that it invites that, which it does.
I made it clear enough that Bill was lazy and stupid to take that list of countries and try to cherry pick some simple little supposed correlation between them, in so doing heavily implying that this is what makes them the happiest nations. He didn't get that stuff about atheism and socialism from the source, he was editorialising.
I picked just as an example some other correlations that people with sinister purposes could point to an claim that THOSE were the important features, and I made the point that this is the same reasoning he is using at heart. Which it is.Those are white dominated countries, they are the inheritors of protestant institutions and populations. Someone who knows more about them should be able to put together other correlations that are not obvious to me.
Your name implies that you like science, and presumably see some value in the methods therein. So you know the difference between correlation and cause. Don't make me lecture you on it.

That would have to be the silliest poll I've seen so far (and polls are rubbish anyway). Why would an atheist be happier than anyone else? How do they define 'atheist'? I don't think Australian aborigines are very happy people.

Appreciate you & the other active PhilosophyNow Forum members who took the time to give this thread your attention for a few moments...
I developed scientific premises along with a logical thesis with a strong focus - Don't forget...I queried members here for a specific framework for a proper response.
Allow me to re-state the focus for this particular thread;
*For all of my active PhilosophyNow Forum active members who are reading this thread - *How happy are you?
*To what extent is your country of residence supportive or responsible for your personal happiness?
Your adherence to these philosophical guidelines and very specific questions is appreciated!

Re: Happiest Countries in the World - 2018 ALL Have Strong Influence of Democratic Socialism & Atheism
First you would need to define 'happy' or 'happiness'. For instance, some people are happy being miserable. Americans are always complaining and hating. I think it makes them happy, or perhaps it's a safety valve to counter all that fake smiling and 'upbeatness' crap they carry on with. It can't be easy pretending to be an exuberant, hyper-energised dynamo all the time.

Re: Happiest Countries in the World - 2018 ALL Have Strong Influence of Democratic Socialism & Atheism
But some of those things might make some people miserable. This gets more ridiculous by the minute. Some people are happy on a low income, others are miserable on a high one. More money, different kinds of worries. 'Social support' could be translated as 'do-gooding busybodies'. They can make people very unhappy. Some people hate the thought of living to be really old. It makes them miserable. Ever noticed how happy the terminally ill often seem to be?Bill Wiltrack wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 11:22 pm .
