Victim Impact Statements

Post by bobevenson »

Per AEP theory, victim impact statements in a court of law are improper and should be disallowed. As an example, if somebody is convicted of murder, what difference does it make if the victim had many relatives whose lives are shattered versus somebody whom everybody wished dead anyway? If you need further explanation, you're beyond philosophical or political help.

Actually I agree. And what if they call for victim statements and no one makes one? Then everyone will think 'obviously no one loved that person or cared' when it might only mean that their loved ones are so traumatised or shy that they can't stand up in court in front of everyone and expose themselves in that way. It's actually quite sickening. Plus, your 'justice' system is so flawed that with the number of innocent people being convicted that it turns into a ridiculous farce, with wailing family members lecturing the wrong person, and the convicted person being expected to show 'appropriate remorse' for something they haven't done--or risk a heavier sentence or no parole.
