How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

It seems that at least in theory they would act like an inverse rear spoiler on a race car. The inverse of ground hugging traction is lift, which seems more crucial to flight than speed although that's needed to activate the Bernoulli effect. But then there's size, so bring in the calculus to figure out when too big creates drag and impedes lift. Perhaps time for some hands on experiments, maybe some wind-tunneling, although some might insist on computer modeling.
