Brief Meditation on Questions that don't matter

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

Brief Meditation on Questions that don't matter

Post by Gary Childress »

If you could travel faster than the speed of light would you eventually pass the photons that were emitted with the "big bang"? Could you "escape" the universe? Or, if you traveled faster than the speed of light, would you see the big bang going backward in front of you as you caught up with the photons released prior? Or what would a photon look like from behind as you caught up to it? Would it look any different?

Or, what if the universe were closed and there is eventually a "big collapse" whereby photons would eventually stop and then be sucked "backward" in direction? During the big collapse (assuming you could live through such an event) would you see the big bang going backward as successive waves of prior photons whizzed by? Of course, you would be whizzing backward as well. So the photons released prior maybe couldn't catch up to you (unless they move backward faster than you do). So what would you see during a "big collapse"?

If you could travel faster than the speed of light would you eventually pass the photons that were emitted with the big bang ? Yes

If you could travel faster than the speed of light could you escape the universe ? No

Or if you travelled faster than the speed of light would you see the big bang going backward in front of you ? Yes

Or what would a photon look like from behind as you caught up to it ? Would it look any different ? Yes

Or if the universe were closed and there is eventually a big collapse whereby photons would eventually stop and be sucked backward ? Yes

During the big collapse would you see the big bang going backward as successive waves of prior photons whizzed by ? Yes

So the photons released prior maybe could not catch up to you ? No [ unless they move backward faster than you do ] Yes
