What should we credit (or blame) this on? Vaccines?, antibiotics, food?

I've never seen a good article on this.

Mostly better hygiene.

Also research brought us ever more effective treatments for bacterial and viral ailment as exorcism and leeches turned out to be ineffective.

I think people are just getting meaner, and mean people are tougher to kill.
