Why America can never be great again.

Post by Nick_A » Wed Aug 21, 2019 1:10 am

America can no longer be great since it no longer can be good. It has rejected the religious influence and corrupted its Constitution necessary to unite a free people – “One Nation Under God.”

People who understood what America is have passed away and are being replaced by those only interested in eliminating freedom in favor of power and control of secular statism. Read these ideas while you can. You no longer my be able to as PC becomes more dominant.
Alexis de Tocqueville

I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers—and it was not there. . . . in her fertile fields and bound less forests—and it was not there. . . . in her rich mines and her vast world commerce—and it was not there. . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution—and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.
John Adams

John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Did the American Indians think it was great? Did the slaves?

"The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults." Alexis de Tocqueville
People and nations are not perfect. What makes either great is how they deal with mistakes and it is the religious influence that makes respect for the value of freedom possible

But it was the religious who decimated the Indians and kept slaves? Don't tell me, they weren't really religious.

I believe the US will gradually declined as its competitive edge will erode due to the other nations catching up.

One of the reason its the rising of its minimal wage to $15.00 an hour.
Just imagine if a worker worked 8 hours that would be $120.00 a day.

At $120.00 that could be someone's monthly pay in some third world countries or even one and half month's pay in some countries.
Logically and economically there is no way the USA can produce anything that it can sell to the majority of countries and make a profit.

The only way the US can sell any of its good overseas if it has a monopoly [technology, skill, etc.] over certain goods which cannot produce by other countries.
But as I had argued, in the long run the majority of countries will catch up with the technology and skill the USA has and there is no need for them to buy USA because their goods are too expensive.

The US companies cannot go overseas to exploit cheap labor to export back to US because there are tariffs.

At present the USA can still grow with it limited monopoly and internal consumption. Meantime, despite tariffs, the USA will still have import cheaper good from overseas thus increasing its trade imbalance and debts.

As such, once its competitive advantage is highly eroded, the USA will not be great again in the longer run.

In what sense are you using the word 'great'? It's difficult to tell with yanks because they are always messing around with word meanings and butchering the English language. Is it as in 'have a 'great' day'? Or as a single-word exclamation: 'Great!'? Or what about 'great prices', which apparently means 'small' prices (notwithstanding the fact that 'great' means something substantial and, well, large :? ) because it's used in a positive way when talking about the price of goods and people generally prefer small prices over big ones....

Alexis de Tocqueville was French and not American. To be great is to actualize your potential

Who are Adams and De Toqueville that we should take their political philosophy seriously? It seems to me that they are both wrong.

Dumbest post of the week.

"One Nation Under God" dates back to the earliest times of the USA - 1954.

A phrase which the constitution expressly forbids, yet the influence of the Christian right in the USA have never been greater than it is now. This is breeding more bigotry, and more racial hatred year by year.

The phrase "one nation under god", sounds more like Islam, and is in direct contradiction with any idea approximating a "Free People".

Pretending that this is a problem shows a woeful ignorance of basic economics.

America is unique since it is not built on a culture. There is a French culture, an Italian culture etc. America is a country built on ideas necessary to sustain freedom. That is why those who seek to destroy freedom for the sake of establishing forms of statist slavery must attack ideas.

The most basic of these ides are those which connect Man with its source. "In God We Trust." It is being changed to "In the Government We Trust."

Freedom requires a society which has character as an ideal. It is the influence of the essence of religion that enables us to feel the value of character. Without character freedom must devolve into anarchy. Of course character is always being threatened. Look at how the ideas within the Ten Commandments are attacked. Jesus said we cannot serve two masters. America has decided to worship money as its master and ignoring character. Since America is a country built on ideals the religious ideas supporting character necessary for freedom are essential. Obviously rejecting this ideal for worshiping money, vanity, and self importance means America can no longer be good. Sacrificing this potential means America can no longer be great.

The goose that laid the golden eggs is dead so America feeds off of its remaining eggs. When they are gone America will be left with the results of experts. A sure sign that the end is near.

Freedom requires the mutual acceptance of voluntary obligations. It is impossible without the religious influence. Without it we are left with lawful obligations determined by government and the belief that statist slavery is better than freedom. Then people have to learn the hard way.

“Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville
It is amazing how how America has openly sacrificed its founding principle of liberty in order to embrace slavery. Equality in restraint and servitude is now the motivating force for life in America. My how times have changed.
