Buddhism's 4NT-8FP is a Life Problem Solving Technique.

Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

Buddhism's 4NT-8FP is a Life Problem Solving Technique.

Post by Veritas Aequitas » Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:08 am

The Buddha's 4NT-8FP is a very sophisticated Life's Problem Solving Technique.
This approach teaches one to learn how to fish rather than spoon-feeding fishes to the psychological desperate person with rigid immutable religious commands to be obeyed strictly.

By going through the process systematically and diligently, one would be able to resolve any mental problems (btw not physical problems or those that need serious psychiatric treatments) and live one life optimally.

The four noble truths (4NT) can be summarized as follows:
  • 1.The truth of dukkha (suffering, anxiety, stress)
2.The truth of the origin of dukkha
3.The truth of the cessation of dukkha
4.The truth of the path leading to the cessation of dukkha -8FP*
*8FP = Noble Eightfolds Path which contain the detailed dynamic effective principles, strategies and practices [as opposed to immutable commands from a God].

The Basic Problem Solving Technique entails the following;
  • 1. Defining the problem.
    2. Generating alternatives.
    3. Evaluating and selecting alternatives.
    4. Implementing solutions.
    5.Feedback and Control
The 4NT-8FP when transposed as a conventional problem solving technique is as follows;
  • 1. Defining the problem.
NT1 -The truth of dukkha (suffering, anxiety, stress)
NT2 -The truth of the origin of dukkha -12 Nidanas

    2. Generating alternatives.
NT3 -The truth of the cessation of dukkha -Reverse 12 Nidanas

    3. Evaluating and selecting alternatives.
NT4 -The truth of the path leading to the cessation of dukkha -8FP

    4. Implementing solutions.
8FP -Right View, Intention, Speech, Action, Livelihood, Effort, Concentration, Mindfulness

    F5. Feedback and Control
Right View - Is the problem resolved?
    Yes, -seek improvement
No, -Check 1 and repeat process
The above is just a model.
Plus point is, it is an objective model and it provide a framework as a guide for anyone to work on.

The Details of Practice
To put into actual effective practice, it will entail complex, many processes and detail work.
The details can be found within the various sutras from the various Buddhist schools.
What is needed is to compile the various sets of practices from different schools into one common practice.

The above model works best when the Buddha Story is deemed as a myth, where one's effort is focus on the model and the Buddha's core principles.

IMO, the above model with its complex details will also facilitate the weaning off the religious trimmings of Buddhism by the next 100-200 years or ASAP.

Thanks for the fish.
Learn how to fish yourself!

Your encounter and behavior is a good case study.
You did by chance encounter a VERY big fish jumping out of the water onto land while walking along a beach.
Then you clung to it supraliminally [unconsciously] thus has brought forth certain types of subliminal sufferings to yourself.
The evidence is the lashing out on others who counter your belief [perceived as those who try to steal away your fish].

Thus you have sufferings.
If you apply the above model and the steps you can trace to the origins of your sufferings.

Note step 4.
You could not get to step 4 thus got caught with;
Wrong View, Wrong Intention, Wrong Speech, Wrong Action, Wrong Effort, Wrong Concentration, Wrong Mindfulness.

If you can turn the above 'Wrongs' to 'Right' you will end the cycle of the birth of sufferings.

How can you ever learn to be a good person for your own well being and that of humanity without concepts?

You do not exist without the concept of you. For without the concept of you, you are nothing.

You are this inconceivable concept... aka mind full of dreamscape within the dream of separation, aka knowledge.

I am do not intend to go off tangent on this threat but you are conflating as usual, in this example with 'you' and 'YOU'.
There is another thread on 'concept', I will address this point in there later.

Do you have any criticism of the OP?

Who is this 'you' and 'YOU' ...you are referring to ?

You asked me about concepts so I gave you an answer.

Buddhism only works on a personal lvl, but ruins a society, it's too unspecific and what it teaches isn't good for society as a whole, more like ..devastating!

For society to work you have to care about something or someone. Caring leads to inevitable suffering because of permanent inevitable loss. There is no remedy for that kind of suffering. You can only ennobilize it, and reconcile it, by admitting that one day i will go the way of what i lost.

Buddhism [like any else that is good] has to start and be involved from the individual level, but,
one of the maxim of Buddhism-proper is empathy and compassion to all human beings and extended to all living things. That is not intended to ruin society.
The above model will cover all types of sufferings not only the individual[s].

You will the note the model above is iterative and looping in keeping to ask the question, is there suffering?

If "caring" leads to suffering, then there must be something wrong in the strategies taken and as such one has to go back to the model and start again to find the root causes and establish preventive measures to be implemented.
It is likely the "wrong view" and wrong strategies had been applied to the concept of 'caring' that led to sufferings. Thus one has to find the 'right view' that will not result in sufferings.

Why do I hear that buddhist monks sexually abuse children, just like the christian priests?

Many of the scriptures has good intend, but lacks modern understanding of social aspects, how to deal with difficult aspects of society etc, your scriptures are outdated!

There is a big difference between the ideology-proper and what some perverted Buddhists are doing.
Agree there has been abuses by Buddhists but they did not abuse in the name of Buddha nor Buddhism.

Have you come across any Buddhist shouting 'Buddha-u-Akbar' or quoting any verses from the Buddhist sutra when they commit violence or to justify their evil acts?
