Philosophy of Mind

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

The mind is here.

The brain is not.

Betwixt and between.

Sometimes the twain shall meet.

Thank-you Mr. Lewis. The Ultimate Guide PHILOSOPHY OF MIND ISSUE THREE: MIND. I read the magazine really for the books that you recommend in the magazine. Your friendly philosopher Puto.

Sounds like metaphysical alchemy. If you just get the right mixture you can make gold--or consciousness. Sure!

I wrote that back in '15 before I became a whacky deist: I don't hold with that thinkin' any more.

Now: I'm thinkin' man is a composite of flesh & spirit, or matter & information, if you prefer. Two radically different things inextricably bound together. Either is worthless, impotent, alone.

Not quite.

23 The mind is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of my mind for ever.

Bullshit to that!

"Try to remember the kinds of September when life was tender and oh so mellow.

Try to remember the kinds of September when no one wept except the willows.

Try to remember the kinds of September and, if you remember, then follow.....follow your heart."

Worst. Advice. Ever.

If I follow my heart all kinds of people are gonna be dead.

I follow my heart and I'll fill cemeteries.

My heart is a black, vile thing. I can't ever let it lead.

Don;t eat hot tamales for breakfast. Your stomach won;t be mellow.

I eat butterfingers for breakfast, That's why I keep dropping things.

Your spirit will live forever but if it doesn't like your mind, it will find a new mind.
