What we discover through thinking is a function of what we knew

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

What we discover through thinking is a function of what we knew

We first argue that there is no strong emergence and only weak emergence exists. By strong emergence, I mean that the property of the system is not a function of the properties of the parts, and vice versa by weak emergence I mean that the property of the system is a function of the properties of the parts.

To prove that strong emergence does not exist consider a system with many parts each has its own properties. Now consider that the system has a new property that is not a function of the properties of parts. There is however a reason why the system has this property rather than any other property. This means that the property of the system is a function. The only variables available are the properties of the parts. Therefore, the property of the system is a function of the properties of the parts. Therefore, there is no strong emergence. Therefore, the property of the system is a function of the properties of the parts or we always deal with weak emergence.

How this can be applied to knowledge gathering? Consider parts to be the knowledge that we gathered, old knowledge. The old knowledge may lead to new knowledge. If this is true then the new knowledge has to be a function of old knowledge.
