Is intentionally failing sentience tests a sign of sentience?commonsense wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:26 pm You seem to have a version of the Turing Test here. I might ask the computer if it’s a computer. Unless it’s been programmed to lie, that would be the end of the matter.
Is Google’s LaMDA “sentient”? And if not, could we tell the difference?

I think if you could prove that there was some premeditation, by inference, that would be a solid test for sentience. Essentially intentionality or forethought.commonsense wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 3:31 pmInteresting thought.Skepdick wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 3:23 pmIs intentionally failing sentience tests a sign of sentience?commonsense wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:26 pm You seem to have a version of the Turing Test here. Nah. There is no solid test for sentience.Dimebag wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:43 amI think if you could prove that there was some premeditation, by inference, that would be a solid test for sentience. Essentially intentionality or forethought.
The closest I could come to, is whether this 'entity' returned each afternoon for me smacking it around again with a claw hammer.
