Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

People who know nothing
are my kind of people,
because I know nothing.
Socrates understood.
The end began
when people began
to know everything
and trusted themselves
completely. (Luxin 234)

I think what is most important is knowing that you don’t know, that is the beginning of learning.

It’s like the zen or Buddhist saying, “you have to empty your cup”.

Most people’s cups are overflowing with utter garbage these days. Best to start with an empty one and decide what is worth putting in.

Ramana Maharshi: "Be rid of current thoughts. That is all."

I'll go with the guy who transcended all suffering.

He lived until 1950. Google him.

Unfortunately, most people are so enmeshed in the garbage from birth they have no choice. Us lucky few who were born outside of it, had the perspective to see the madness as just that.

It's a myth that humans went through a "caveman" phase. Caves are not nice to live in, they are wet and damp and play havoc with rhuematism. In man's Palaeolithic past caves were exclusively ritual places, and really the only reason the myth of the "caveman" came about was due to the simple fact that EVIDENCE tends to get preserved in caves. Whilst such minimal evidence was being preserved humans were ahppily making all sorts of technology out in the open - none of which is preserved. This includes anything from basket-ware, wooden tools, portable and temporary housing, clothing and footware, bows, arrows, spears etc etc.
So rather than huddling in damp caves with rough furs, shivering, they were highly mobile and far more sophisticated than most people know.

I think folks, after a certain point, choose their garbage...they have a choice...I say, hold 'em responsible for it

that's crap...there's no lucky few

most folks, most of the time, know what the score is...most lack courage, is all
