If reincarnation is true, then at first glance it seems logical for one's soul to be traced back to a previous 'life'.
However, if further consider the soul can ‘split’ or ‘merge’ also, then ‘tracing’ back to one single previous identity will then become impossible. just imagine Soul A and B becomes merged to C and then C splits again into D, E, F, then should F be traced back to either A or B? It seems impossible. Such is the one of the tricky point the concept ‘soul’ is different from any physical entity. The tricky point is fundamentally due to the ‘Unity’ characteristics of consciousness against the ‘divisibility’ feature of conventionally physical object. For physical object, you can still say a subsequent object Z can be ‘partially’ traced back to a preceding object X and be ‘partially’ traced back to another preceding object Y, if Z is from the mixing of X and Y. However, for consciousness/soul, the ‘partially’ concept would NOT even make sense. Just imagine you are ‘half’ of you, or ‘1/10’ of you, it just does not make sense. For those who has some study into the Philosophy of Mind would understand that.
Even if reincarnation is true, the tracing back to one's previous life would be impossible.

The way I have come to view the idea of reincarnation is that one can have a human experience and that experience can be saved. Akashic records
The next experience can be merged with the saved experience through a medium which allows the one who has experienced both to be able to acknowledge both experiences had and comparing them, learn something new.

Reincarnation is a myth. There is no body that is incarnate anyway – I as Awareness aka the First Person Singular isn’t in a body...the body is in it...the body is an empty invisible thought known by the only knowing there is which is consciousness which is indivisibley one.
The only thing merging here is the wave emerging and re-emerging with the ocean. In other words nothing is ever born nor can die.
