Re: Free agent cannot be created

You are failing to distinguish between ontology and epistemology. And you are also failing to distinguish between non-determinism and randomness. Epistemically you can't determine whether the ontology (reality) is deterministic or non-deterministic, so the entire issue about free will is incoherent...

Re: Where's prof?

Not quite, just wondered where he is, since I've known him since 2008, so it's a long time, even tho I don't like him, I still have the familiar feel and a bit of nostalgia. Yeah, I hear ya. These new-fangled come-hither idiots who join the site these days don't even have a clue what idiots we, the...

Re: Where's prof?

Very true, the tragic part that his personal opinions were incoherent babble, like he have had a massive stroke at some point in life. Add some massive self importance and attention seeker. You just wrote the personality analysis of most of us on this site. Michelangelo couldn't have pained a more ...

Re: Free agent cannot be created

I think the author is wrong. Any given particle has a determined position and momentum. Well, the entire quantum mechanic community thinks that the author is right. What math do you have to show that supports that the author is wrong? Just saying "he (or she) is wrong" does not quite cut ...

Re: Eternal Recurrence Revisited

Eternal recurrence is dead set against entropy. Entropy is a physical truth, subject to the critical view against such truths; eternal recurrence is a mind game, subject to pondering, bewonderment, awe, but to no evidence.

Re: Meaning in the Executive Suite

What’s off key, though, is the claim that existential fulfilment is a byproduct of this effort. Why does management care about your sense of meaning? Follow the money. When employees are convinced that they’re part of a grand enterprise in pursuit of noble goals, they work harder. The purpose of th...

Re: Where's prof?

Haven't seen him in a while, along with Philosophy Explorer? ..or whatever his name was. Where did they go? I've been encountering his posts at another site. He is just as vigorously stupid, but on the other site they take him more seriously and with less vitriol. I, personally, could not stand him...

Re: do people choose their religion?

Yes, anyone who thinks god can chose is risible. You are actually right, whether gods or god exist or not. If they don't exist, obviously. If they exist, with the qualities associated with him in western culture, then it's also impossible for god to have a free will and an ability to choose. There ...

So... you are saying, Sculptor, that Jews are the laughing stock of humanity.
Yes, anyone who thinks god can chose is risible.
And there is one Jew that would agree with me; Baruch Spinoza.
here's another agreeable Jew to join the laughing chorus: Jesus the Christ.

Re: What accounts for Western high death rates?

Going back to topic, after a healthy helping of thrashing Sculptor: I remember early reports (February? March?) which said that the virus dies in hot air. They did not specify the temperature. All countries in the article listed with high mortality rates are in the so-called temperate climate zone. ...

Re: What accounts for Western high death rates?

is demographical distribution given with the death rate statistics? Because in my country (Western country, highly developed) most of the dead to date occurred in old folk homes where the conditions were deplorable, inhumane, horrible. I don't think there are many old people (of age 85 and above) in...

Some countries with low death rates. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/05/curious-case-south-asia-coronavirus-deaths-200518090320358.html I wonder if the elephant in the room is Western countries have poor quality, high calory diet, and poor health propped up with good healthcare? Re: do people choose their religion?

It's not people who choose god. it's gods who choose their people. But weren't gods created by man? Yes, they were. So in fact... it's people who choose people. And whom people choose is always the self, or the tribe or nation they live in. In fact, it would be ludicruous to say, "Hey, I believ...
