Re: An argument against materialism

The issue is that how could your thoughts intervene if matter behavior is already determined? What makes you think thoughts are not already matter (that is, a process in matter)? There's no issue with the behavior of organic matter determined from the past into the future by means of regulated proc...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

I maintain my original claim; "The papers showed this; Kant questioned whether "Metaphysics is possible as a science" [like the Science and Mathematics then] and his answer was "No!" and "Yes" i.e. 'No' to the typical Traditional Metaphysics but 'yes' to the Metap...

Re: An argument against materialism

How about determined. So OK, matter behavior determined from the past into the future? What's the issue with that? The issue is that how could your thoughts intervene if matter behavior is already determined? What makes you think thoughts are not already matter (that is, a process in matter)? There...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

Note it is an evolutionary default that ALL living things [since the first one-celled living things to the complex human beings] are 'programmed' to focus their attention what is outside and external to them, i.e. to look for food, look out for threats and partners to reproduce the next generations...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

The papers showed this; Kant questioned whether "Metaphysics is possible as a science" [like the Science and Mathematics then] and his answer was "No!" and "Yes" i.e. 'No' to the typical Traditional Metaphysics but 'yes' to the Metaphysics of Morality. As such you cann...

Re: An argument against materialism

Isn't matter behavior decided from the past into the future? "Decided" does not seem to be the right word. I hope you don't think the first Ice Age was "decided". How about determined. So OK, matter behavior determined from the past into the future? What's the issue with that?

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

Note my point in the previous post where reality MUST necessarily be viewed from various perspectives of reality. I already cleared up your confusion and showed what are the perspectives of reality, from the common sense view, realists and anti-realists. The anti-realist view is just a confusion of...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

Thus when the question "Is Metaphysics as Science Possible" was raised it was with reference to the above Bacon's view of Science, i.e. empirical based. As such, my point, based on this view, Metaphysics as a Science is not possible. But the point was not whether you thought or not that m...

Re: An argument against materialism

Could we please focuse on action that your conscious mind is involved with it, like thinking, and then deciding to move your arms? What is the point you want to discuss? All of these are consistent with materialism and natural laws. Isn't matter behavior decided from the past into the future? "...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

Note again, I am not denying dinosaurs did not exist before human from the conventional perspective based on the concept of time, existence, matter, etc. Whether you refer to dinosaurs, the moon and the likes, ultimately these supposedly and apparently "independent" entities cannot be abs...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

There's no other context in discussion but the times of Kant and his project in relation to metaphysics in the 18th century. I have provided now enough references as to make clear that he thought metaphysics as a philosophical discipline was possible and could be reformed to become a proper science...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

I am not associating myself with notable philosophers, but it is very rational to make those 'side' critiques based on what you [others] have posted. What is not acceptable is if one were to make vulgar [current use], other contemptible and scornful remarks. That's a very late disclaimer at this ti...

Re: Prove An Independent Reality-in-Itself Exists

That's completely pointless to the discussion, which is about whether or not Kant wanted to raise metaphysics to the level of a science, as science was understood at the end of the 18th century. The answer is yes, as supported by many references I have provided. This can certainly imply and be cons...

Re: An argument against materialism

I said thought is different from the laws of nature. Thought in fact is dependent on laws of nature within materialism. So my objection is valid. How something whose very existence depends on something else, such as the thought that depends on matter, can affect matter when matter's behavior is alr...
