"Truth isn't absolute: it changes as our needs and experiences change."
And as Hegel believed, the absolute is constantly consummating itself. So, then, is the truth.

Re: Cosmic Entropy
Pychco,
I can only smile at the simple mindedness of your argument.
The 'economic' activity you explain does not support the integrated, complex society our world is made of.

Re: Cosmic Entropy
Ibb, I can see that you can't go beyond your narrow understanding of entropy. Just like Darwinism has been apply to the social condition so has entropy. In business both terms have been applied to emphasize a sense of vitality and viability. Economic activity does bring about an entropy, due to the ...

Re: Cosmic Entropy
How? If they do your are not talking about the norm or that is feasible in the long run. There are people who do this.
There are also people who live on the street. But does that make for a good situation or a valid society?

Re: Cosmic Entropy
Ibb, If you were responding to claims I made that were scientifically fallacious you didn't make a very go case. You asked me, about what I said about the economy, "What makes you draw this conclusion?". Well, try making a decent life for yourself without first addressing the economic impe...

Re: Cosmic Entropy
I blame blame,
You had a good run there. But you didn't say anything that was new or convincing. However, when it comes to human existence everything is reducible to economics. It is what sustains the system.

Re: rick, can you get soros interviewed for philosophy now ?
Soros is a philosopher in action and of deeds, not just of words. He is an activist. He has put his philosophy into practice through his money, investing and speculating. I think he knows that economics and money's free flow, above all, changes and advances the world. In that respect he is not a fai...

Article in issue 71
In issue 71 of P N there is an article about Dewey and Darwin by Tim Madigan, on how Darwin influenced the pragmatists. I have read it several time and am still trying to get the comprehensive meaning of it. Someone once said the reason why Darwin's theory of evolution still stands the test of time ...

Re: rick, can you get soros interviewed for philosophy now ?
Well, I read Soros' theory and I thought it was difficult to understand, like something Jacque Derrida would write. It sounds so vague, this stuff about reflexivity and equilibrium. However, the theory that Soros has helped him make a lot of money, by betting again how the masses react in their inve...

Most readers of PN wouldn't know what George Soros was talking about, or care.

Re: Cosmic Entropy
As I was thinking about this post on Cosmic Entropy I was reminded about Herbert Spencer (PN issue 71) and how he reacted in 1858 when he first learned about the second law of thermodynamics, the so-called law of entropy. He wrote "I remember being out of sorts for some days afterwards". S...

Re: Issue 71 - the Darwin issue!
I received my copy today and was surprised how early it came. I was thinking that I wouldn't see it until March.
It was a nice surprise to see it in my mailbox this morning. I particularly like the 'Social Darwin' aspect of the issue.

Re: Welcome to our new forum!
Rick,
With all due respect, why didn't you leave the 'new forum' the way it was? The only thing I like about the new, new one is the blue masthead, instead of the red.
