Re: Psychology foundation
HexHammer; It is true that many people believe that philosophy has outlived itself, even Steven Hawkins stated that philosophy is dead. This just goes to show that even the brightest minds can be wrong. Religion can not replace philosophy because it is more interested in faith than in truth. Scienc...

Re: Psychology foundation
Should one be well versed in psychology before doing philosophical counseling? Also what forms of philosophy would be most suitable for counseling purposes? PhilX Phil; I had never heard of 'philosophical counseling' and thought that you were making chit up. But no, it does exist. My first impressi...

Re: Psychology foundation
It's always good to know psychology, eventually humans will be involved in the end result, I don't really know of any project that doesn't involve humans in one way or other. ..but why would anyone reasonable intelligent waste time on philosophical counseling? Philosophy is outdated, deal with it! ...

Henry; I agree with your position regarding the difference between 'witness' and 'agent', and your statement below is also true, but there are other considerations. You can read all the books about fucking you like, interview a thousand folks on the subject, and watch porn till your right arm grows ...

Re: What form of discipline should be used at home?
Hi Kayla; Please consider my following responses. a common theme that comes up when someone tries to defend corporal punishment is 'respect' but hitting (or spanking or wahtever you want to call it) in response to disrespect makes no sense - it is about as mismatched a response as you can get Actual...

Re: Bob's Ethical Advice Column
Oh, yes, there's a point to all of this. Let's face it, you didn't do anything wrong. The kid was 100% at fault, and in an AEP society, most people would probably do exactly what you said. But in today's society, the only rational thing to do is check to see if there are any witnesses, and if not, ...

Re: Man, like the universe, is a machine
Strong AI people say that if you put enough silicon computer chips together you will find that consciousness will emerge from this complexity. In other words, some time in the future computers will be conscious in the same way as humans are conscious. Ginkgo; That may be pushing things a bit. First...

Re: Ebola Just Arrived in Cleveland - Looking For Advice
Bill; You might want to go to Wiki and look up Ebola virus, that is what I did. The good news was that it is not an air-born virus; the bad news was that it transfers through body fluids, but not like STD's. It transfers through ALL body fluids. So this includes tears, spit, sneezes, and sweat. A pe...

Re: do we have the exact same consciousness the dinosures ha
Jackles; You ask the most interesting questions. It must be a great deal of fun playing in your mind. But in this case, I think the answer is no. We do not have the same consciousness. Consider what consciousness actually is; it is an awareness. So what you are actually asking is, were dinosaurs awa...

Re: What form of discipline should be used at home?
Kayla; It seems that I am always apologizing to you. You wrote a very good post with interesting and valid points that I intended to address, but my computer had other plans. Apparently getting on-line proved too much for my old computer, and it started locking up every time I tried. I finally put i...

Re: What form of discipline should be used at home?
Voice of Time; You have produced a well-considered post with valid points, which deserves an equally sincere answer. But if we are to continue this discussion of emotion, we should probably start a new thread as we are bound to go off topic. Although I can respect your position below, I can not agre...

Re: What form of discipline should be used at home?
i am a little puzzled by excuses like 'he smacked the kid (or his wife or wahtever) because he was tired and/or under stress' strikes me as a nonsequitor Well you may be puzzled, but I am confused. What "excuses" are you talking about? Who is the "he" who smacked what "kid&...
