Re: I am an Islamophobe. If you are not, you might not be a moral person.
Hearst. Hearst was a leftist during most of his life, but from his late fifties or 60s he became a rightist. Why do you think that happened? I can relate. I used to have positive view of religion in general and also Islam, I was politically a leftist. But then I switched sides. It was probably buil...

Re: I am an Islamophobe. If you are not, you might not be a moral person.
It means you are on here pretending to be a muslim atheist who's scared to post on the internet. A pretty pathetic ruse. Would you like me to take a selfie of a minaret in the background and holding a device open to this page of philosophynow forum and upload the image to this thread? Would you lik...

I would say you are not a muslim's bum-hole. And there is nothing 'awesome' about American 'culture' (or is McDonald's your idea of heaven?) Not sure what your remark about muslim's means? As for America, I personally find the lunar landing, the Internet, cell phones, the Panama Canal, nuclear powe...

Re: I am an Islamophobe. If you are not, you might not be a moral person.
The problems IN Islam are nowhere near so urgent as those everybody else has WITH Islam. Muslim terror attacks are unfortunately pretty common in the county where I live. In the last big one in my city, the first guy shot was the same nationality, color, and religion as I am. He was shot purely bas...

Re: I am an Islamophobe. If you are not, you might not be a moral person.
It's a bit pathetic to hark back to the 1700s. There have been long periods of stability in the interim. It's just that all the interference keeps destabilising the region. What do you mean by 'peace-keeping'? In the normal way causation is thought of, what comes before cannot be the result of what...

- the new right - is just the American form of those who are using Islam in Indonesia to promote authoritarian identity politics. This was my first impression too, but after further consideration concluded that the tradition or status quo in America is actually democracy, freedom of speech, freedom...

Re: Is the Linguistic Turn opposed to using mathematics and formal methods in explaining some aspects of reality?
My view is that the "linguistic turn" is largely wrong. I have written up everything that is on my mind about the issue to date, except the "bare life" angle that comes up at the end of the discussion here: http://forum.philosophynow.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=22065 I've writte...

Re: Language culture separable? Connection to critical theory?
I contend that the Thai government who requires Thai culture courses for foreign workers has the correct approach, the aborted policy in Indonesia that required foreign workers to attain levels of Indonesian language competence was misguided.

Another story that needs to be told is the story of monasticism. There is something wrong with the forum, it isn't displaying properly. Yes, I've looked into this issue of monasticism too. One comment I have is that Muhammad himself came to enlightenment after spending long periods alone in a cave ...

Re: My way out of Islam
Why is religion full of mystification and complications? I wondered about this too. I have a few off-hand thoughts. Presumably at one time the Middle-East was a lusher environment that could afford magic and superstition. Habits that don't go extinct continue. By contrast I notice that the Norse re...

Re: I am an Islamophobe. If you are not, you might not be a moral person.
Muslims had their own magnificent countries that the 'West' has systematically destroyed. Now the 'West' will just have to wait and see if 2 billion muslims will be as aggressive and relentless in enforcing their ideology as kristians have been since its inception. Unfortunately very few people are...

Re: Language culture separable? Connection to critical theory?
I do not think the problem will go away however, since all the other ways you want to divide up people into 'clusters' (supposedly representing 'cultures' and 'values') seems similarly arbitrary, being more likely to reflect the preoccupations of whoever is doing the dividing than identifying anyth...

You don't have your own doctors and teachers? Canada: 2.1 per 1,000 Indonesia: 0.13 per 1,000 people Basically Canada has 2000% more doctors, not to mention budget and quality. All you need is love! Did you know that Seleucus was the only one of Alexander's generals who stayed with his Asiatic wife...

Re: Should I discuss atheism and religion on an online philosophy forum if I live in a country where atheism is illegal
it would be better to have peace keepers and other experts, for example layers, professors, doctors, police trainers , and so on go to and so on go to, say Indonesia, to protect gay Muslims 'Western' countries are heavily involved in 'improving' muslim countries. Just look at how those countries ha...
